Am I right in understanding that it ratchets from drivers side to pass side for adjustment? Kind of just clicks into place?

Yep, the upper portion of the switch is adjustable side to side. Has a fine click ratchet for adjustment. I center it by doing a key-on, engine-off, set brake and put shifter in reverse. While observing the backup lights move the switch so the lights just come on, then count the clicks while further moving it until they are off.

Go half the number of clicks back the other way to center the adjustment.

It does. Just reach up there and push it on the side and it'll rotate about the axis of the steering column.

When I did mine I noticed 11 clicks with the reverse lights on so I choose the 'middle click'. After test driving I found that wasn't right so I had to move it a few clicks to one side.

It seems like the reverse lights would stay on if I went to park from reverse.
