So this has been bugging me a while and I'm wondering if you guys have any answers. Im the original owner of my 1985 GN, purchased it from the dealer in 85. I've counted the gears on my rear end (more than once) and Im positive its a 3:73 ratio unit. Any ideas how it left the factory with that ratio instead of the normal 3:42? Attached is a photo of the original window sticker showing the posi unit as an option.

could have gotten a rear end for a 442 put in it by mistake on the line.. if so, your speedometer would read about 10% slow..

^^^ Speedo would say you are going faster than you are, if you have a deeper rear gear than it is calibrated for.

Ya my speedo has always read fast....I'll see if Ive got a picture of the rear end when I replaced the cover.

The GN and The 442 were made on the same line in the Flint MI factory so it was either built on a Monday morning or late in the day on a Friday.

Somewhere on a 442 forum a guy is posting that he has a 3:42 ratio in his 8.5 rear end.....
