Hi

I have a line on a used steering column... but it has no key.

Can I replace the ignition cylinder if I have no key?

TIA.... dave

Yes. You can get the tumbler at any parts store

Maybe your old ignition cylinder can be used? Some of our vendors have Genuine GM ignition parts. Autozone can sell you the ignition switch in black or chrome if I remember right and also will sell you the:
  1. Steering wheel puller - $40
  2. Column Plate depressor - $20
Keep your receipt. When you finish, tools go back for full refund - it's all part of their tool/rental/deposit/whatever program.

Here's Youtube video for ignition removal for '86 Le Sabre which gives you the gist of it:

DWALL...

thanks for the video. That was helpful

I have to figure if it is worth the effort or look for another steering column with a key.

thanks... dave

Where are you located? If your around chicago I do it for you.

Toronto, Canada... eh!!! It would be a long road trip.

thanks for the offer... dave

ps: I'm going to see if I can talk the seller down to $35-40 since I have to buy another ignition cylinder. Lets see what happens.
