Speedometer gone crazy!!

Let me start by saying that first my VSS went bad and wouldn't let the lock up engage or get a MPH reading on the Scanmaster. As I was getting ready to purchase one my transmission took a crap. Got the transmission rebuilt and made a test drive and all was well. The speedometer worked normal as ususal. Which brings me to this, I took the dash apart to change the hard to reach dash bulbs. I put the dash back together and now the speedometer just goes over to 85mph as soon as the car begins to move. Can anyone give a suggestion as to what may have possibly went wrong?

unhook the cable and hook it back up. that's the only thing you touched that would affect the operation of the speedometer.

Do you mean the speedometer cable under the hood?
