I live in Virginia, home to Phillip-Morris tobacco, and while we do have smoking laws here, they don't have much bite. Bars and restaurants have to have a non-smoking area with separate HVAC systems, but most are a one table "closet" with no wait staff service.

Tell me about what's going on in your area. Just curious.....

In FL. you can't smoke at all in-doors if food is served. I personally am a supporter of the non-smoking laws. Never liked leaving an establishment and smelling smoke on my clothes.

I love it. Finally my wife and I can go to a bar and have a drink and not stink. They all pissed and moaned how business would drop but after they passed the restaraunt law here business actually went up for bars and restaraunts.

In LA county there is no smoking indoors of course. Most bars and clubs have smoking areas. However in the city of Santa Monica it is illegal to smoke on sidewalks, the pier, the beach, on your patio and in general areas where people congregate.

Here it's no smoking in restaurants (inside); smoking is allowed at bars, and in general in public. Though I always hate it when all the smokers congregate right by the door outside of a no smoking place. On campus, there are designated smoking areas that aren't too far out of the way, so they're still pretty convenient for smokers, without having everyone getting to walk through it.

I went one city over (Anderson), and it was totally different, they still had smoking in restaurants (no seperate HVAC). Everything smelled terrible in that place.

However, the last time I went to Bloomington, smoking is allowed in designated areas only it seems; none in restaurants/bars/public. It was glorious!

Here in NJ cannot smoke in restaurants or bars... I love it.. I dont need some chain smoker taking days off my life and damaging my lungs.... Take that sh*t elsewhere... Like outside on the deck... I know is Missouri they still allow smoking in bars and have smoking sections in restaurants.... Found that out when i went to visit!!... I feel every state should habe these laws inplace.. They talk about be a healthier US.. well heres a step.. people cant loose weight and live longer if there inhaling unfiltered smoke!!!! As a Nurse , iam definetly approve this law!!!!!!

In Maine you cannot smoke inside of resturaunts, bars or any public establisment. Also you can't smoke in a vehicle if there is a child (under 18) in the vehicle with you.

The only place in NH it is allowed indoors is the proffesional BINGO HALLS and man does it REEK!

I gave up helping my sons private school to earn credits.

I tell you those SMOKERS do GAMBLE! EAT, and DRINK! They wheel some of them into the BINGO hall half dead and all hooked up to machines.

smoking

here in indiana, smoking is allowed in all the casinos and horse racing tracks,no smoking in the dinning halls, about all the resturants around here are non smoking, of course the american legion hall and amvets are still smoking,
the casinos have a non smoking aera but yet a non smoker goes to the smoking aera and sits down besides someone with a pipe, cigar or cig,
then complains,
good luck oc,

Here in WI the law just went into effect July 5th. No smoking in any public establishment. Casino's are still exempt.

It is a good thing. I smoked for 20 years and now its been 3 months since I quit and now I can go have a cold beer without having to smell smoke and tempt me to start again.

I do know of one town where its illegal to have a lit cigarette anywhere in public. I think the only place you can have a cig is in your home or your car.

In LA, no smoking in restaurants. Bars are still exempt for now.

My personal opinion is if a business owner wants to have a smoke free establishment, then go for it. Apparently there are enough people out there to support such a business without government intervention. But IMO, the same holds if an owner wants to NOT be smoke free.

But alas, it is what it is.

Smoking in a public building is illegal in CT. They need to extend that to make it illegal to smoke within 50ft of a building entrance too. I went in to work at 5 am Sunday and some little douchebag was smoking in the building and i asked him if he thought he was special or something. His reply was that he had permission to smoke inside:rolleyes:. Yeah BullChit!. I asked his supervisor about it just to confirm he was full of chit. If he is smoking inside again next Sunday when i come in its going to get ugly. Ill report his ass at minimum. Typical defiant little a$$hole. About 5'6" 125lbs.

Imo smoking is going away. I was at a wedding where over 70% of the guests were 35 or younger and only saw a few smoking all night. One of them was the photographer. Smoking is a chit addiction to say the least.

Cant smoke indoors anywhere in Minnesota. Stupid law really and pretty much there to build revenue for the state through fines for businesses that catered to smokers and are forced to close or pay giant fines.

To those who love these stupid laws, look, they infringe on someone. Leave it to the business owner. If they want to allow smoking in their place of business then they should be allowed to do so without the state interfering with their legal business. If you as a non-smoker just love the place so much and cant find a suitable substitute then you will go. If there is another place that doesnt allow smoking and is just as cool as the other place then go there.

Its so great you cant smoke in a bar now. I guess those that smoke and dont drink wont go any more so that leaves those great healthy non-smokers to drink up the specials and let the state make more revenue off the DWI they get, at the very least.

First, let me say that I believe that smokers have rights, just like non-smokers have rights. I believe my right to breathe clean, smoke-free air far outweighs the right of a smoker's right to smoke. When the rights of one infringe upon the rights of others, there's a problem. Smokers make up around 20% of our population. Should 1 person be allowed to degrade the health of 5 others?

In Virginia, they passes a candy azzed law that attempts to protect the non-smoking workers that are forced to spend 8 hours a day in a smoke-filled room. The law makes it a $25 fine IF the police catch you puffing. I'm sure the cops are gonna spend their time enforcing that one !!!

Michigan just passed a smoking ban for basically everywhere indoors, except for 'smoking bars' and casinos.

The first day of the ban, my wife and I went to a bar for the first time in ~5 years to celebrate. My wife has breathing issues that flare up when she is around smoke. I can't tell you how long we've waited for the ban hammer to come down on the smokers up here.

no one was born with a Cig in their mouth. So if finding a place to smoke is getting harder and harder oh well suck it up.

LIAR! Foxwood suked when I tried eating at California Pizza and the SMOKE wafted in!

I guess they consider that INDIAN terratorry and not CT.
That's true. It's not public. Its a reservation but they do have sections dedicated to non smoking but not enough imo.

Anywhere else in CT inside public restraunts, bars, malls, etc... it is banned.

Smoking is disgusting and has the world world by the ballz. It just amazes me the stranglehold it has on people.

Lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, COPD, etc..... I will never understand. You truly have to be borderline stupid to smoke imo. Im sure that offends many but how many of you would walk in a building with exposed espestice and breath it in? Not many, yet people choose to inhale that type of poison daily....

There are over 4000 chemicals present in cigarettes and
around 50 of those chemicals are known to be carcinogenic and can and DO cause cancer.

As I mentioned earlier, I believe it should be the business owner's right to choose. There are plenty of business opportunities out there for non-smoking establishments that people can go to and also work in. But it should be a matter of choice, not laws enacted because non-smokers don't like something.

And let's not use "health risks" as the basis of argument here. Otherwise, McDonalds franchises and the like need to be closing by the thousands and "banned" altogether considering the sh!t food those places serve.
