Shift linkage

May be a dumb question, but I am wondering why our Grand Nationals, which have the floor shifter, would have this shift linkage like a column shift car would use?

Because the P/N switch is on the column (along with the switch lockout) so they needed a way to turn it.

It works the column. Move your shifter and watch your steering column...it moves. Without it, you have no lock and ignition won't turn...if memory serves me correct.
It's been a few years since I installed my aftermarket shifter, but I went back and put the linkage back after I figured out what was wrong.
