Does the whole dash need to come off or just the cluster? I hate dash work.

Replacing a speedo cable can be a bitch?

If you do not know this simple procedure, which should be worth $1oo to you, I will give you this simple step which could save you an hour or so on this job.

First I drop the steering column for better access of my fat fingers. After you release the cable from the dash tie a strong string to it and pull the cable and string out from the firewall.

You now certainly know the next step, use the string to pull the new cable into the dash and then have a beer to celebrate a hard job made easy! :)

easier

push speedo cable under hood into the firewall grommet a few inches
pull the bezel ,
you can remove the four screws and pull the cluster froward , reach your fingers around the back and depress the speedo cable retainer clip then remove the cluster
or unscrew and remove the clear lens, remove the screws holding the fuel level panel and remove that
remove the speedo panel screws and pull it forward
depress the clip and release the speedo from the cable

with speedo out of the way pull out the speedometer cable from the casing and replace or
if you need to pull the casing tape a length of tubing to the end pop the grommet from firewall and pull it out from engine side
