if anyone is thinking about buying a radar detector in the near future, i have some brand new escort passports, from the middle models like the solo s2, to the very highest like the 9500i, and the professional level passport sr7. prces are differant but huge savings off of retail

Why don't you go and make a thread in the For Sale section? I just ordered a Beltronics V995 for $150 through my job's discount but if I could have found a similar deal of other brands I might have went for something else.

Not trying to steal any thunder from ya' RGS87GN, but is Valentine still the best? I'm outa' the loop on detectors.

I was going to say the Valentine One has never been beat be competition has it?

I have an ancient Uniden I got when laser first came out but it still works well. I'd be interested in upgrading if the price was right. I can't count how many times that thing has saved my arse...

Pretty good luck with K-40. They come with a one year guarantee. If you get a ticket they pay for it.

How much are you selling these for?

Since they are illegal here, can the cops tell if its on when they zoom in on you? Its a heavy duty fine for those things so would they be safe in that situation?

I understand that there is in fact a radar detector detector that cops can use to find which cars are using radar detectors. If illegal just move to a different state.

Valentine one is the only radar detector worth plugging in. My brother got one and I made fun of him for spending $400 for a radar detector. My dad got one a year later. 3 speeding tickets and 1 more year later I got one and would never live without one now. 7 years and I've never found anything that compaired. Spend the money and you won't regret it.

Yes, the police can tell which cars are using detectors here in Virginia. So, that's why I don't have one. They not only give you a citation for speeding, they will legally take your detector permanently. All that money lost. They can tell if one is actually operating in your car, even if you're doing the speed limit and can pull you over just for that reason, having an operating radar detector.:( That's why I always do the speed limit everywhere I go, never a citation ever. Sure gets boring being a law abiding citizen sometimes.:frown: But, at night, on long, lonely roads, I've been known to crank out the '87, then back off. Sure wish I could have a detector, more blinking lights, beeping, another cool gauge to have. Can't have everything.:frown:

One of my neighbors is an Oklahoma State Trooper and when he had a Z28 we would race each other for fun. One day I asked him if I could ride along to see what happens on the roadways.
When he came by to pick me up I jumped and just had to touch every button in the car. I kept asking questions about all of the equipment about how it worked and what was it. One thing that jumped out at me was the radar jamming detector and the radar detector detection device. I remember thinking to myself holy crap they know when we are using these electronic devices. So to answer your question yes they have equipment to find out if you are using jammers and detectors.
Another thing that amazed me was the little camara that hangs below the rearview mirror is extremely powerful. He had a LED screen and would use the camara to zoom in on license plates to see if they had expired. One guy was reading a book in the right hand lane and we were in the left hand lane approximately 5 car lengths back and we could read the book with him!
At the end of the ride I asked him if we could put all of his gear on the GN and go patrol the roadways. He laughed and said it would be a hell of a lot better than a Ford Crown Vic.

to be honest i dont know a whole lot about them, i know the escorts are biiiig money. i do have the cordless ones, they are called the solo s2's and those im selling for 250$, then next one is the passport 9500i and those are 375$, and escorts top of the line is the sr7, has front and rear detectors, good for laser/radar/ and also can block any voodoo a gypsy might try to use on you.....very usefull in virginia. that particular kit goes for over a thousand bucks from escort, i have them for 450$. and everything i have is in a sealed box.

Nailed

Bruce,
I found out in VA that they can tell if you have a radar detector. Cost $100. Came out of nowhere (shows what a crappy detector it was). He took the detector, wrote the ticket, returned detector with summons. Later found out that they can tell by the output frequency of the detector. Check with mfg if their detectors can be picked up by troopers on I-81. I understand some cannot.
