Output shaft is floppy?

I'm doing an output shaft seal in an 87 TR, and I noticed once I got the seal out the output shaft just flops around. I was wondering that was normal or if there was a problem with the transmission?

The output shaft will move around when the driveshaft is removed. Nothing to worry about.

when you place the drive shaft yoke into the trans, all the movement should stop,
there is a bushing in the tail shaft, that the yoke ride in, and steadies the tail shaft.
this is why you should NEVER tow a car with the drive shaft installed, no oil gets to the
tail housing bushing, and wipes it out quickly!
