No Shifts....

The car isn't slipping in gear, but it wont shift. I have to bring the RPMs up to about 3200 and let off the gas then punch the gas again to make it shift. What do I need to be looking at guys? I'm stumped?

I just went thru something very similar. I ended up disconnecting the tv cable from the throttle linkage and working the cable very quickly back and forth 30-40 times and then reconnected it and reset the tv cable. All good now. HTH.

Make sure the govenor didn't throw the spring.

Ya thanks, thats next on the list. The tv cable didn't help at all. Looks like i'm dropping the pan again to check the governor.

When it shifts, is it firm and hard? The TV valve might be stuck or the spring is broken.

when it does shift it shifts hard

Does it shift thru all the gears? You will have to drop the pan and look at the TV valve plunger. Push it in. It should pop out. And it should be touching the linkage.

i can get it into every gear, but it needs to be above 3200rpm and i have to give it gas let out then back on and it will sometimes shift

It sounds like a TV problem. The valve is in the WOT position and the trans shifts accordingly.

Does sound like the TV plunger or valve.
Usually when the Gov spring pops out it will only shift at very hi rpm 5000 or more.

Surprise it was governor spring. Thanks for the help guys. Gotta throw it back together and see how it drives

Did you secure the Spring so it wont pop out again?

Took it down to a local trans shop and they fixed the governor
