The girlfriend is thinking of moving to Arizona ( Pheonix or Tempe ) area in a couple of month's and since I'm laid off was maybe thinking of going too. You guys that live in Arizona have any thoughts, good or bad. I like to hunt so if I had my way I would move to Great Falls, Montana. Was there for 5 weeks during nov. and dec. this past year elk and mule deer hunting. Can you just purchase a big game license over the counter for elk and mule deer once you are a resident. Or is it a lottery drawing? I don't mind the heat, at least I won't have to worry about salt eating up my other vehicles. GN doesn't see the snow and salt so that doesn't worry me.
If I think of anything else I'll add them back in.
Thanks for any input, good or bad

Like to hear about it too. I have been there four times for my company. We have a facility there. I talked to AZGN one time on the phone there but we never got together. I visited Firebird and went to some of the Casinos there. Went to the Canyon and stuff. Overall I like it! In a couple of hours you can go from smoking hot to cold. I was pretty impressed! Next time an opening comes up out there I may put in for it. I think I would rather deal with it than this cold:mad:

not an expert on the hunting thing (think they do have to draw for elk and such, but it is mostly for the hunt area)

but you can hunt everything from Javelena to Ducks......

we have two (2) racetracks within 30 miles of Phoenix.....Firebird and Speedworld

in the summer when it is 110 in the Valley, a two hour drive will put you in the 75* 7000 ft mountains......

we got 6 months of perfect weather, 2 or 3 months of hot weather, and 3 or 4 months of really hot weather

cost of living here is low compared to similar sized areas (Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US.......)

too damn many people in Phoenix (see above)

Arizona has spectacular scenery ranging from the deserts to the mountains (all we need is an ocean, and that is 3.5 hours away in San Diego....)

too damn many people in Phoenix......

we have every pro sport with state of the art facilities (just not state of the art teams in some cases)

and last, if you have a GN, Nick lives here:D

TOO DAMN MANY PEOPLE in PHOENIX LOL
I think her sister lives in Tempe?
Thanks for the info AZGN :D :D
Anybody elses opinions?

I'll be a transplanted BROWNS fan. ;)

I like living in AZ. I've lived in Tucson and the Phoenix area. Tucson's nice because there are mountains very close, not too many people, lots of hiking, and it cools off at night in the middle of the summer, BUT, you'll never get a job there.

I now live in Chandler, just outside of Phoenix and realy like it. The job market is alright considering the economy, pay is decent, and there's planty to do.

The summers absolutely suck here, but that's what vacations are for. Even at night it's hot as hell in the Phoenix area. But, you pay in the summer to have perfect weather in the winter. I'll definately take our summers over what the east coast is going through right now. Just remember, you don't need to shovel heat. Since you're the outdoors type, the White mountains and Grand Canyon are all within 2 to 3 hours from here. As far as hunting goes, Elk and Deer hunting licenses are drawn by lottery. Small game licenses are over the counter.

Hope this helps.

me and my girlfriend been thinking of moving to arizona or north carolina in a few years, housing is cheap in carolina then here in NY, what are your guys thaughts. I know nothing of both

I travel alot with my job and have been all over the country.I was born in Florida and have lived in AZ since. If I had the choice I would only pick Florida over AZ. Great hunting, if you like to fish you got 5 really great bass lakes, I will take hot over cold any day. It's not that bad, I like wearing shorts in December:D Tracks are good, houses are cheep, local GN guys are great! Nick is only grumpy between 4 and 7pm. Over all it's a great place to live,o-ya the street racing is killer. Hope to see you soon.

If you have any other ????? you can give me a call 602 319 0481.

I'm born and raised in the Valley so I'm a little biased. Phoenix is a great place to live. All the hunting and fishing and the casinos and the scenery already mentioned there are also all the auto races and and car shows that go on here. For instance last years schedule:

Nov 8 NASCAR truck series
Nov9 NASCAR busch series
Nov 10 NASCAR winston cup
Nov 15-17 Super Chevy Show
Nov 16-17 Goodguys Rod and Custom

This years schedule is pretty much the same.

The summer's can be a bit hot, especially if your not used to the heat, but I don't sweat until 116*

I think you'd like it here.

Live in AZ?

I reside in Kingman, AZ, north west corner of AZ, were at 3300ft, and the temp rarely goes above 100, but.... it does get below freezing here, I love it!, the nearest strip is Las Vegas, about 1hour away, were 2.5 hrs from Phoenix, were only 30 min from Laughlin (gambling, boating on colorado river)
Hey Black Death, if you move to North Carolina, I have a house in Winston Salem for sale!
hunting here is OK, nuthing to brag about, but your close to Nev, and Utah, 1 to 2 hrs away.
if you have any specfic questions, please ask away!
hope this helps

My wife's uncle lived his whole life in MA and moved to AZ about 6 years ago. He loves it. It does get hot in the summer but that is what A/C is for. It is much cheaper to live down there for sure. He loves to golf so he gets to golf year round. I have heard the inspection process on the cars is a pain though. Don't know how much truth there is to that rumor.

Pro's

Nick lives here and can hook up your GN with just about anything, lots and lots of GN's around town.

Weather is great!

Lots of stuff to do, never get bored.

Con's

Too many damn people and they just keep comming and comming......

On second thought maybe you should stay put! J/K ;)

Oh yea, one more BIG thing.

It does get way way hot in the summer but the good thing is that means alot less clothing, if you know what I mean. :D There are alot of nice looking women around, just don't tell that part to your GF.

Pro:

Weather

Con:

State government in turmoil, expect much higher income and real estate taxes in future. Spending fiasco's (alternative fuel vehicles, etc.) Psyco's running the asylum.

Insurance costs rising. Highest auto theft rate in country.

At least one murder a day.

Weather. Unbearable heat for six months of the year.

Right to work state. If you can find work, don't expect to make anything close to what you're used to making. Many of the people in Arizona are underemployed, if not unemployed.

Uncontrolled growth. If Phoenix continues to grow, very real possibility that water reserves might be a real problem in the future. We're in the throws of a drought right now.

The stat's say that for every five that move to Phoenix, four move back within two years. What does that tell you.

Social programs? Forget it. If your out of work and hungry, tomorrow you'll still be out of work and much hungrier. We care for our destitute and mentally unstable by finding them a new refrigerator box complete with a rent free space under some bridge. I'm not complaining, just telling it like it is.

Which of my comments do you find untrue, Dathan. ;) Oh, and by the way, I do like it here or I wouldn't be here. We do have some problems though.

you hit the nail on the head with all the comments. you speak the truth.

you did however fail to mention that the states school systen is going to h@ll in a hand basket!

other then that you cant really beat the Phoenix metro area.

preach on brother Evers.

Looks like ARIZONA is dealing with the typical growing pains of jobs & goverment.

One thing will never change "The Nice weather" :)

I have a friend that just moved there to take a job with IBM global solutions.. He sends me emails daily telling me how warm it is.. Hey 33 degrees is not bad for NH today :(

33 in long island too, tomorrow its supposed to be 48!! springtime yes!!!, i can take the car cover off and start workign on the beast agian yippy!

25 year native here...

Phoenix.... sucks.

Outlying communities(Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, or on the edges of phoenix).... better.

Hunting...NICE
Weather... like AZGN said, only 3-4 months are really bad...nothing like seeing asphalt MELT!:eek:just learn to wear white :D
Cops here are real ****s. sheriffs and dps are a little better

Government is a joke... if you have kids... beware the CPS, they'll kidnap your child and hold em for ransom...and I am NOT EVEN kidding!

People here, generally, are F***** RUDE! you go to merge... and they'll speed up and cut you off... no S***!

Buick guys are great though...

But, if you can get over all that:eek: (we all do) I LOVE AZ!

Snow ski and water ski in the same day. lakes, mountains, BIKINIS... drool:cool: , 8 hrs from Vegas, 8 hrs from San Diego, 4 hrs from Rocky Point (mexico beach town-live like a king all weekend for 200 bucks!). LOVE the weather, wore shorts today...

As far as the water concern goes... yeah we live in the desert, but they have been saying it was going to run dry since I was a kid... and probably before that too.

Lot of wetts here too (illegals), I won't take my car somewhere I can't keep an eye on it.

The guys are right though... 2 hour drive in the summer will get you up north in the 75-80 degree weather... only problem is EVERYONE does it... nothing like leaving sunday morning for a 2 hr drive home and not getting there till monday AM!!

I have my own spots I go to... but they too are getting popular.

I have worked everywhere... no mater what, I will always come back to AZ.

Hope this helps your decision...

Vic
