We have been going through this 87' GN that I just purchased and am unsure about the following drain/return installation. As you can see the drain line has a loop (like a plumbing P-trap) and then terminates into I believe a mechanical fuel pump boss. While nicely plumbed I am unsure if this is good practice (the line looped lower than then the end plumbing.

(I didn't see a factory return in the block so I assume this isn't an original turbo block).

Is this something I should have concern with?

Thanks in advance for helping me get back up to speed on Buick's after fifteen years off!

Short answer: No.
Your description as a "P" trap is right on.
Since there's no block drain, I'd drop the pan, and weld a bung in it. Use the long hose, and the fittings, and make a drop directly to the pan. I ran that set up on my stage car...No issues.

Nope, it needs a direct route. It's going to need a fitting in the pan as Chuck suggested. To save time you could find another pan and mod it so it could be a quick swap.
