Horn

Ok so I just replaced my Turn Signal Cam that was preventing my horn from working. The plastic piece had broken off.

I rented the Wheel Puller and Lock Plate puller from AutoZone and also purchased a new Turn Signal Cam.

I installed the new Turn Signal Cam and put everything back on. My horn was working again! Yaay!

I drove to AutoZone in the GN and returned the tools I loaned out. On the way back I was testing out the horn. So far so good, a little sensitive but it WORKS!

I parked the GN in the garage and went inside the house. About 45 minutes later my horn started going off, non stop! I ran to the garage unlocked the car, popped the hood and disconnected the 2 green wires that lead to the horns.

Anyone have any idea as to what is going on? The only thing I didnt install was the new Turn Signal Cam came with a black paper ring. If you bend it, the black dissappears. The other side is completely black. Reason why I didn't install is was that the old Turn Signal Cam didnt have one.

Here is a picture of the old Cam and the black paper ring (Both sides).

I put the spring in to the hole of the Turn Signal Cam then locked it in place with the black part.

Mikey your gonna have to go back to the zone and get those tools, take it apart and snap a few pics. Gotta be something simple.

Stevey,

Actually it might be something simple. The foam on the back is pretty much gone. Im guessing the 2 halves are making contact. What do you think?

Search "ghost horn" and "electrical horn issue". You may find some ideas there.

Absolutely. Check it out.

That's what happened to mine a few yrs ago(horn went off for no reason, foam pad was deteriorated), used the material commonly used for shipping computer components(it's that black foam sheet about 1/8" thick), pain in the arse cutting to fit though.

I checked my horn pad out this morning and indeed the foam was pretty much gone. All that remained was crumbs stuck to the glue. This made both halves come in contact with no resistance.

The Solution: I went to an Arts and Crafts store and purchased soft foam that is 1/2" thick. Cut a circle to mach the diameter of the inside of the horn pad. Cut a few holes for the ground contact and no more ghost horn.

Thanks to all that responded in my measly quest to figure out my horn situation.

84BuickGNYorkPA, I went to a few electronic stores and even stopped at a FedEX. Couldn't find what you were talking about at the store. Did a research and looks like it's Polyurethane open cell foam? If the Ghost Horn returns I'll be buying some of that online. Thanks.
