Hi guys, another question here..

I'm getting all the parts together for my 85 wh1 rebuild, and I keep coming back to the turbo. It's not stock, and was replaced two owners ago. (Not positive, from the previous owners say, but he wasn't really bright) It's a Garrett turbo, I'm not sure about the make, but it M10 is stamped right before Garrett. The car has never been together with me as an owner.

Now the fun stuff:

There is a bit of play in the turbo, it can move maybe a mm or 2 in any direction around, and it looks and sounds like it can nick the edge of the turbo. Does it need rebuilding?

Thanks guys.

How do you know its not stock, if the hole where the tb go's is bigger then stock and it has the m10 i would say a ta33.

as for the rebuild if you have the money i would say fix the turbo , if not and it does not smoke then try her out and see what happens.

On both of the stock turbos I have had apart there was some play in the shaft. About the same as you speak of. Mine leaks very little and the other one I had apart doesn't leak at all.

The guy I bought it from said the previous owner roasted the original, and had it replaced. It sort of fits what else has been repaired, I figure the guy let it get really hot once.

I guess I'll play it by ear, thanks for the replies.
