GoodBye overtime pay...thanks George

Poor reporting at it's best.

I don't see where they posted anything but hype, where are the alledged changes?.

Carp reporting, period.

By the way, we are due for some ugly changes since the gummit has been out of control for so many DECADES.

Not to mention Japan and China having bought the Feds..

Just for something to think about. With so much of the profits going overseas, what does that do here?. It limits the available cash, so the feds print more. Repeat this cycle a few times, and eventually we get to where we'll run out of paper. ie our economy will be worthless.

It may seem olf fashioned, but folks need to spend a few extra pennies, and buy American, while they still can. We can't just consume, we need to manufacture, and more then just Winders CDs.

Payroll is the number one expense in business. Management's job is to decide whether there is a need for overtime. If yes, then you work it, sometimes against your wishes. If no, then it will not be available. Basing your income on expected overtime is foolish, period. Same thing as basing your income on bonuses, lottery winnings or Publisher's Clearing House payouts. Only the pursuit of happiness is guaranteed by the constitution, the happiness is not.

Krom said it best!

I completely believe in what Krom says. I have owned my own business for 10 years know. I have 3 employees. I have sat down with pencil & paper many times over the past decade tring to figure out a way to be more profitible. Our business hours are from 8 am to 5 pm. My guys normally shop up at about 8, but then they have to drink their morning coffee, which takes until about 8:20, then about 10, they take their 15 minute break, this normally lasts until about 10:25. Then at 11:30, they go on their 1 hour lunch break, which usally takes until 12:45. Then at 2:30, they take their second 15 minute break, which usally ends up being about 2:50 or 2:55. And last but not least, they start shutting down about 4:30. I know I am ranting here, but where have all the hard working people gone here? I am 41 years old, I do not consider my self to be old. But my parents taught me that if you work for someone, then do just that, WORK. One more thing & then I will get off my soapbox, Most employees have ZERO respect for you or your business. All they care about is 5:00 and PAYDAY. I hope everyone here haas a great weekend.

I don't understand all these lazy people either. I work 8hours and 45 a day and I don't take my 15 minute breaks and I eat lunch at my desk most of the time. I then go to my second job for 20 hours a week and I work my but off there too. People take advantage of some good jobs that I would love to have. But another thing is the fact that not to many employers have the power of motivation they are always there to reprimand you and discipline you but never there to compliment or tell you that you are doing a good job and this pretty much kills your drive to help them get rich. All managment kisses ass up stream but they never praise the real workers. Even when they are busting there asses, a pat on the back once in a while would do wonders for your profitability.

Nope never noticed that, I think you can tell when you do 3 times as much work as the next guy who has his feet up all day who the lazy one is.

Ever notice how it's always the OTHER GUY who's lazy???

I have. I also notice that when I see other people slacking off, I slack off, too.

Management has said in meetings "We've had a no raise policy for the last year so we could avoid layoffs"

My thoughts are "What is this socialism? let us, the employees, identify the dead wood, you can fire them and then we'll do their work (how hard could that be) then we'll divy up their wages between us."

Lazy employees are reduced, existing employees not only work harder, but are happier because they make more.

Lazy employee hopefully learns a valuable lesson he will use at his next employer.

Who would you rather work for? Me or my management?

Work ethics??

Sad, but true folks. The "old timer" work ethic in this country is in the toilet and fast disappearing.
I worked for a major mfgr.. While at the home office, I observed the smokers break habits... Some were outside, regardless of the weather, every 20 minutes!! The policy said 1 10 min break in the Am, same in the Pm..
The WORST offender was the vice President of HR!! It was no wonder an employee could not get his sorry ass on the fone.. He was outside smoking for 56 minutes out of the 90 that I observed the crowd doing this. [He ended up w/ lung cancer] To make it worse, the total number of people doing this was about 20 people.. ALL were repeat "offenders". [All out/in 1 door] Who knows how many were at the other 4 doors in the bldg!!

Bubba.. sounds like you need to have an " Attitude adjustment" get together! Maybe a time clock would be the next thing.. Pay ONLY for the time actually working.

John L is rite on! One relies and plans on the paychek.. all else is "gravy", and should NOT be included in a budget..

Bottom line is: The work ethic training starts at home, and w/ so many "latchkey" kids left to fend for themselves, they don't get the supervision they need.. A fact of life in today's family struggles to make a living... Both parents are at work..

Maybe a stock mkt crash and a depression would bring the work ethic back up to a reasonable standard.. If you are a jerkoff, you are replaced by one of the hundreds out looking for work!!

Back under my rock!:D :D

LOL, makes me feel good. I love being self employed and working alone! No more office politics BS, no one taking personal calls all day and not doing their share, or taking breaks all day...if something screws up, I just fix it. No finger pointing. Makes for a very efficient office. I work late if I need to or take it home. If I want a raise, I work harder.
Thanks for taking me down memory lane!

Life is good! :D ;) :p

you are 100% correct. One should *NEVER* count on ot as your needed pay to survive. It will come and go as needed by the company. You should start a seperate account and put all the ot pay in it and let it amass. ONLY use your base rate to live on within your budget. The rest is a gift. Use your head and you will not get in trouble. You should feel peivledged. I do not EVER get .01 ot .. ever.. No matter how long I work.

I honestly don't see why you need to take a break for anything other than lunch but I have been only out of the Marine Corps for a year So that's prbably why. I dont know but to remove overtime pay would decrease my pay from 33,000 to about 26,000 I dont know how many one income famillies in south florida can survive on that especially when you have a family of four.

turbo87limited : Holy crap, you are an easy going boss. I thought I was a lazy worker because I don't go around dusting everything off (I'm 18 with a part time job so yeah nothing serious) like some employees, but jeez. I do your employees workshift and we are only allowed a 1/2 hour lunch break and must remain in the store. I take 5-10 minutes usualy for lunch and am back out to my position. How come you allow for so many breaks?
GNdriver, thats not right, someone who comes from serving our country should be getting a lot more then that.

Sandman, I really don't have a good explanation as to why I allow it. I guess when times were good, I felt that if we were making money (profits), I might as well let them enjoy theirselves a little also. But as profits weakened, and layoffs were imminent, I kept the employees that at the time were the best workers I had. I paid these employees whether we had jobs or not, I knew that business was going to pick back up soon. As luck would have it, it picked up sooner than I thought. Now I have as much work as I can handle, 2 weeks backlog, (BTW I know I am TRULLY BLESSED to be able to say that I have a 2 week backlog), know I have a bunch of whiney employees saying I am working them too hard. I could write a book on my experiences, but one thing I trully know for sure. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to own their own business for a little while. That way when they went back out to get a job working for someone else, they would know what it takes to get the job done. Sorry for my lunchtime RANT.;)

Anyone ever go to a foreign country and watch them work?

Americans can work circles around most of them, and that would be our lousy workers. ;)

Excepting those in countries with the whips and guns at their backs.

Or those chained to the workbench.

My $.02, but, hey I'm unemployed right now and getting lazy and I kinda like it. :D

It only goes into effect if you make $65,000 or more
