Is the 86-87 ECM a stock GM one or a parts store reman? Is it known to be good?

Is the Chevy trans to Buick eng adaptor just a plate with a bunch of holes in it or is there something that takes up space in the converter and crank flange area? If you have all the stuff the manufacturer supplies with it I'm interested in that too.
