Fuel pump sending unit

So, while I'm waiting for my new fuel pump from racetronix, I have the sending unit sitting out on the bench wired up and ready to go for the new pump. I was checking the hoses to make sure they are all good and I noticed that the return line where the hose plugs onto it is necked down quite a bit. Just wondering if that's how it's supposed to be, because I'm thinking about restriction and eliminating it as much as possible to reduce stress on the new pump. Why would buick put a three eighths feed line, five sixteenth return line and then squeeze the return line down to less than a quarter inch? Here's a picture of what I'm talking about.

Why? I "think" I know . . Lol
Because it is good enough to feed 6 x 28lb injectors @80% DC.
The squeeze in the line is from the fixture clamping, to form the end of the line.

The Saginaw fittings have smaller inside diameter than the sending unit
