Cotton has an 8.5 in his car. Ive seen it run in the 8's. It is 33 spline i believe and its spooled. It has several other mods done to it but the housing is one that came in a TR. He ran a 31 splined posi for a long time and ran low 9's with it and a good cover. It will go a long way with bone stock axles and all down in the low 11's. It should be unbreakable any slower than that.

Still using the Stock posi in the TSM car with 28 spline moser axles. 5.90 at 117 with a 1.32 60 foot That's high 9.20 range
A friend had an 8.5 with 33 spline axles and a spool and ran 4.92 at 146 to the 1/8. 3300# car. That's 7.60's in the 1/4......with street 3.73 gears. They are ALOT tougher than people give them credit for. This car now has a 9 inch.

The easy rule of thumb is that an untouched stock GN 8.5 rear is good to low 1.5 60' times. 1.4x or better...put Mosers in it and go race.
