Dies when unplugging cam Sensor

Trying to help a friend with this, His car is an 87 GN and has some bolt ons. We were trying to diagnose a stumble under WOT and disconected the cam sensor and car just dies. I know these cars should go into batch fire mode when running. Any help or a link would be great...

Make sure both chips are pluged into the ECM correctly, no bent prongs. What changes have been make since it started? Any loose intercooler hoses?

What injectors are in it? If they're not stock it might be too rich in batch mode and stall. I don't think mine will run unplugged with my #60s.
