Dash assembly help

Ok, so I'm making a push to get by build finished. I've swapped a GN dash and harness into my El. I sourced these components from different sources, and I saw neither come apart, so I'm having to wing it. First up, the headligh and dimmer switches and connectors. Pic 1 shows the maximum width I have to install the connector, and pic 2 illustrates how buch taller the connector is. Pic 3 shows the top 'slot' that is supposed to ride in the edge of the top and bottom of the hole, I think. If I insert either end of the slot into the hole, the opposing edge of the connector still doesn't clear. I've tried a few things, but I cant get the seated into the hole. I tried putting the switch in the dash and sliding the connector over it, but there's nothing to retain it and it just pulls off so I don't think that's right. Surely someone has installed a dash, did you have the same problem?

It's a really really awkward way to do it, but you will have to push the connector through perpendicular to the dash piece, then once you fit it all through, right it, and pull it back to have it snap in place. At least, that's the way that has worked well for me.

I'll give it a try Dan, if I can pull enough slack on it. I don't want to force anything and break the connector.

Here's how I do it, in case my explanation doesn't make much sense.

This is where you have to turn it 90deg and pull through, it may take a small small screw driver due to the little tab opposite the two others.

Pull through

Push back
