If you have posi the correct size is a 16" donut and IIRC the rubber was a T155. If you didn't have posi than it was a 15" donut and T145. They both interchange of course. That 16" spare and rubber was only used on G-bodies but just the steel wheel part is G-body and 2WD S-10. Most 16" rubbers are the smaller T145 size.
Hi,
Yeah, you don't want to take the chance a rear tire will blow, and then you stick some dinky spare on there, and compromise your posi differential. The bigger one is better.
I assuming this is for show purposes.
I always put the donut on the front. I swap tires if I have a flat on the rear. I've had a few panic situations running around on donuts and it's much safer if the traction is lost on the front wheel any way.
And I think you can still buy the rubber through a Goodyear dealer. Just pick up the wheel from the boneyard and have the new rubber installed.
