I can see @Koshe rubbing his nasties all over that engine!
We must keep him and his khaki pants from getting anywhere near it! :)

Yesterday we made the trip to RC's again to use the engine run stand. No problems, no leaks, heads are ready for retorque. Engine will then be ready for install.

Looks like you sprayed the head gaskets with Copper Coat and filled the oil pump with vaseline.
Same things I use to do years ago when I was rebuilding HP motors-good idea! (y)
One question I have, why are there 3 head gaskets pictured?

They are Cometics. 1 thicker flat shim sandwiched between two thinner embossed shims...

The cometics are mls gaskets held together by rivets. Drill them grind them however you choose and cooper coat each layer then install.

We had a great day. The engine fired up instantly and sounded just right, especially with RC's super duper exhaust mod. While no one involved expected or wanted to have to go through this process, it's been fun and educational, if not inexpensive.

If I lived within 45 minutes or so of Burlington, weekends wouldn't exist. I would just go to RC's on Friday night and schlep my way home on Sunday night to get ready for work. The more I'm there, the more I want to be there.

Regards,
John

Heads are retorqued. There was some movement not a lot. New Bison built turbo installed. New 180 t stat...John gonna need chip adjusted for fan settings. Back in it's home.

Steve, looks beautiful. Did your daughter lobby for you to drop that into her Barbie Beetle? Regarding the 180 stat. That's what I was advised was in there when I purchased the car and was what I advised Eric the car had. The fans are set to come on @ 175. Given this, we good?

Regards,
John

Nope fans will always be on if T stat is 180. Fans should come on 195ish with 180 t stat. No engine in Barbie car!:)

Wow! That looks good.
Steve, I see you used High Temp RTV to seal the Turbo to Headers, but what did you use on the oil return line? Is that the form a gasket stuff?
