Buick versus Ford Event at Noble - Oct 12th 2013

The finalized flyer mentions this website for race info, so here are a few more notes on the race. As everyone should know by now, the race went to a Pro-tree type of starting system years ago. I assume it was switched and will stay the same because so many Buick racers were pushing through the lights and/or red-lighting. Also, in an effort to get a few VERY FAST cars to attend the race, I am allowing (if the pair requests) a handful of 1/8 mile finals. All the other rules are basically the same, Example: 110 Fords qualify and 87 Buicks qualify, then there would be 87 heads up, pro-tree races starting from slowest to fastest. The remaining 23 Fords (in this example) would be paired together to race each other if they so desire. As always, the racetrack's own official will be doing the tech in, and will require all cars and drivers to pass all the NHRA stuff! OU football will be an away game this weekend, so a quick internet search will provide plenty of available hotels in the Norman, OK area. Don't worry football fans, always a few trailers with the game on! As always, smack talking, side bets under the tower, and old man jokes are all encouraged!

the 1/8th mile idea is a good one, by the time the fast guys get there, the track has cooled down and sometimes gotten oiled down on the big end. I was sure Cotton, Bones, and Schmidt were all gonna die that one year, but miraculously they all made it through even though they slide through the traps sideways. This will give them a chance to run hard and not have a 160+ mph wreck.

I will be in with 2 buick entries!

JD: Glad to see you are coming to Noble and bringing two Buicks.

We are almost to the 30 day countdown to the Shootout at Noble and the count for people who have committed to race is 60. We need 30-40 more cars on Team Buick's side.

Please let me know if you plan to come and you are not on this list.

David: I'll give it a try but they quit coming several years back and feedback I got was that many of them quit racing their cars.

Hope to have a larger number of 10-12 second Fords at this race. In the past, it seems that the Ford side didn't really bring any competition for the 11-13 second range. Talk is that there will be a good showing of 2011-2014 Mustangs show. They run 12's stock, so that should help even things up! Also seems there may be a few more heavy hitters on the Buick side, and a few less on the Ford side. Early prediction models are showing a close race, but still a 90% chance of Buick driving old men falling asleep at the line, and oversleeping the pro-tree. Quote: "Science has not proven the cause, but research has shown that this (pulling out a pillow) on the starting line may be linked to the over use of Cialis, Levitra and Viagra the Friday night before the race." So I suggest that all men on the Buick side, over the age of 50, should put the meds away and go to bed at a decent hour Friday night.

That's ok I'll be well rested (I'm 51) and ready. I was just wondering will the Ford guys I mean kids ask their Mommy if they stay up late on Saturday so they can go racing all day? Oh my bad it's Saturday (Sorry I didn't take my geritol today) it's not a school night. Now don't forget to get your homework done on Friday so your Mommy will let you go to the track on Saturday.
Remember the little fat kid that drags your ass on the playground, that will be a Buick dragging your ass at the track!

Is it common practice to leave your rig at the track Friday night with your car instead of hauling it back and forth to the hotel?

Don't know if anything has changed with the new group running the track but yes that has been allowed in the past.

Is there going to be a wheelchair division? Will it be over by 5pm? I know some of these Buick guys are getting old and need to get back to the nursing home or morgue!

Once your at the Morgue I really doubt you can get out and then go back in.....I'm kinda old so not real sure.

We used to have a saying a few years back..."If you don't believe the dead can come back to life, just go to the Buick vs. Ford event in Noble, OK and you will be a believer"

Well, it looks like I'm out. Moms at MD Anderson with leukimia and cars are not an issue for a while. Please pray, we can use all the help we can get.

I meant to ask, is this only Buicks again or are the pontiacs and olds/gmcs allowed ?
