I re-checked what I did yesterday before cutting any wires or modifying anything today, and this is what I found.
I left all as I wired up as mentioned above but used a test light.
I do have switched 12V + going into the brake switch. With key on only.
With key on, I have 12V + coming out the other side of the switch, illuminating the LED and with test light, power to red wire going into trans plug.
As I press the brake pedal the LED and test light goes out, release pedal (brakes off) LED light comes on, and power on at the trans plug.
Tried this many times with no fail, I'm pretty certain I got it right.
