Blown Head Gaskets /

Wow! Sorry, but, the pic you supplied above so does not match the car that you just described! Please do not misunderstand I'm not suggesting that your being dishonest at all!! It's just that it seems crazy for someone to invest all that money in paint / body and interior work (while neglecting the true reason for the cars being in the first place)! Which of course resides under the hood!!!

Swwwwuuurrrrbbooo baby!!

No worries, as i mentioned before im only here as a help to a friend who owns this car.

Originally the car was running great. There was no need to do anything besides paint it. Even the interior was stock clean. I know the interior shop had it for a while. I guess he wanted to go all out on the interior. I guess every one chooses where they want to start spending money first...drive train, paint, wheels, or Interior. Unless you have have a lot of $$$ to get everything done at once.

Post up what part of the country your friend and the GN are in so that some of the members can
point you in the direction of a good GN mechanic.

Dont let someone who is not very familiar with these cars attempt to fix it....you will very likely have continued
problems if you do.

The best money your friend can spend right now is on the right guy to fix the gaskets and the underhood issues...
and their looks to me to be a lot of issues. And then have them straighten out the tune and driveability issues,
fix any oil leaks as the oil pan should come off to do the job properly any way.

Who knows what shape the fuel system is in and it will be money well spent.
I would figure on 2500-3000 if there is only smaller side issues to deal with and more if there are big
issues discovered.

They named them Grand Nationals for a reason.....every time you get an extra grand
you put it in a envelope in the glove box.....for repairs or upgrades.
Lol..I like the closing sentence.

I guarantee that car was not "running fine" before it blew the head gaskets. It may have run and moved under it's own power but it was tearing itself apart. The lack of care under the hood indicates previous owners were amateurs.

Is there something wrong with customizing interior or something?

No, I think most folks can appreciate tasteful mods its just the description makes me think of that blue carpet like my friends pontoon boat and an alligator head console that holds sunglasses and spare change in its mouth but I'm sure that is not what it is. Sorry, I guess I should have kept it to myself. Actually, what is an alligator console; I have never heard of that.

It looks nothing like but why don't you let me see what yours looks like.

That car is so far from stock, you would literally have to have a pornographic memory and memorize this entire site to stand a chance.

Pornographic memory huh??? I know that was intentional [emoji1]

It's all good. The carpet is still black and looks like regular carpet. I guess it's designed to clean up a lot easier than regular carpet incase you spill something on it. The console is the original console wrapped in black alligator skin. Matter of fact I think it's ostrich. I could be wrong. It has a little texture to it. Woodgrain around the floor shifter and 2 black guages at the front of the console.

Aaah, sounds interesting, especially the easy cleaning part; that's always nice.
As several have said, if you can find one of the experienced guys on this board to look at the car, you'll be going in the right direction. I'm not one of the experts but there are plenty here who have lots of experience. Good luck with it, I hope it gets back to running as it should.

I think you guys are being kinda hard on this guy. Whoever owned the car previously apparently was a slob. It appears however that a lot of the basic bolt on upgrading have been done. There are some zip ties on some of the vacuum lines and even one holding the plug wires in place. Lol. I'm glad he came on here to seek advice. The best advice I can give right now is to take Dank GN up on his offer to come over and check it out. I've seen quite a few cars over the years that ran great but the owners wouldn't open the hood because they were embarrassed. Hopefully he gets it sorted out. Learns about it. Etc.
