I was wondering what some of you guys have run for 60' times with the BFG drag radial tires?

I'd like to compare notes if possible.

Please list the following...

1. tire size being used
2. rim diamter & width used
3. optimal air pressure setting used
4. vehicle weight with driver
5. best ET with DR's
6. best 60' with DR's
7. launch type...footbrake or t-brake
8. trans & converter
9. rear gear ratio

thanks for any and all input.

Todd

Thanks for replying fellas. I guess I'm not doing too bad with the first outing on drag radials then.

1. 325/50-15
2. 9.5" x 15 Convo Pro
3. 18 lbs
4. 3600 lbs
5. 10.96
6. 1.52
7. 2000 rpm footbrake launch
8. th400, 8" ATI Treemaster
9. 4.10 gears

These runs were following converting my car from strip only to street/strip (sorry, not a turbo car rather a nose heavy n/a pump gas bbc). The exhaust was complete including a Dr. Gas X-pipe, 20" long case Dynomax mufflers and 3" custom tail pipes over the axle and exit behind the rear tires.

Funny thing is my best 60' previously was 1.47 in a 9 x 30 Hoosier radial slick, running a 10.66 ET with a shorter race exhaust & Straightline Perf mufflers...typical 60's were in the 1.49-1.50 range. DR's were quite close to thoe previous bests in 60'.

I'm quite impressed with the drag radials...can't wait to get on a better track surface this fall with better air conditions. I'm hoping to run mid 10.80's in full street trim.

anyone else car to share the DR combos/performance?

just the post I needed

hey 10secbu, whats in the bbc ? what does your car weigh? what suspension- stock/ ladder bar/ 4 link? I have a 55 chevy with ls6 ,400 turbo 4500 conv, ladder bar c/o, mini tubbed, just bought some 325/50 dr's, and am wondering what setting the ladder bars should be set at (top holes, middle , lowest?) running 3.73 gears, I hang around this site because , the cars for sale or trade for a gn, also just bought some lighter rolling stock , weld pro stars. Thanks for any input in advance.

fasttimes,

My bbc is a destroked 427 bbc (414 ci) that has mild prepped 781 large oval factory iron heads, small Comp Cams street roller grind, Vic jr intake and an old 850 Holley. The engine runs on pump gas, and the cars weight is 3600 lbs w/driver. The rear suspension is simply the GM 4 link setup with simple bolt-on upgrades and a Wolfe RaceCraft anti-roll bar. The trans is a th400 with an 8" ATI Treemaster that flashes to 5200 off a footbrake launch.

Sorry, but I'm not much help on ladder bar setups as I've never intalled them or run them myself. If it were me, I'd probably start in the middle hole and tune from there.

good combo

10secbu, man thats a good working combo, I'll be happy if the car goes 11.50s. You are hitting the tires harder with the 5200 convertor so there is hope for me. I am running an extreme energy 284 hydraulic ( comp 242/246 @50 -590ish lift) cam, never been sure if rollers were worth the money. What do you set your total timing at? mine is at 35 degrees right now, also I had a compression test done and I have 185 to 200 psi throughout the cylinders got any thought s as to how these values relate to setting total timing, if any? Thanks

fast times,

I've only got 4 passes in on the DR's currently, so it'll take some time to learn what they like and don't like. I made 3 passes with a 2000 rpm footbrake launch which worked fine (I launch at 3000 rpm on footbrake with radial slicks). I then tried a 2500 rpm launch and rattled the tires pretty bad on the last pass with the 60' dropping from 1.52/1.53 down to a 1.69 shaking past the 60' timers.

I run my ignition timing at 38 degrees total. This is running on 93 octane pump gas. You'll simply have to experiment to leanr what the engine likes and doesn't...same way with the tires. 35/36 degrees would be a good place to start.

Quint,

Were you asking me, or TurboRegal?

If you were asking me what my mph was on the 10.66 pass, it was 125 mph.

If you were asking someone else, please disregard my reply:eek: .
