It also unfortunatly sounds like the driver might have been showing off or driving reckless. If so, at 64 yr/old, you'd think he'd know better.

That'll be hard to live with if He was showing off.
Maybe cutting corners on Body mount hardware or just weak mounts?

Wow, did someone forget to install the body mounts when they did that resto? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that happen to a A-Body.

Saw that on chevelles.com a few years back. From the sounds of it, he was showing it off and seat belts may not have been in use. Also I'd question the levle of integrity used in the reassembly....driveshaft and hood both on the ground in addition to the obvious "frame off".
