Hello all,

Looks like my ATR wastegate has died.
Day before yesterday I had consistent 15 lbs. of boost.
Yesterday, it decided to go to 20 lbs.!
Good thing I watch my gauges like a hawk!

My question:
Is there a direct bolt-in replacement for my 'gate?
Turbonetics? HKS?

I attached pictures of my 'gate.

PT-51 Race Turbo and 3" downpipe (not sure of brand).

Thanks for any and all help.

Turbonetics requires the flanges be changed.

Change flanges?
I just measured my 'gate and it's the same as a new Turbonetics Evolution:
2.80" flange bolts c-c
.95" flange bolt center to mounting pad face.

Looks like I'll be in the market for a Turbonetics, possibly?

Found the problem.....
I just removed the cover and the valve guide is bad.
The valve has a tremendous amount of side-to-side play.
After 5000 miles?
That's pathetic.
The diaphragm is actually in decent shape.....what a shame.

I have an ATR downpipe and it had an ATR external gate on it just like yours. I have a Tial 38 MM on my TTA and a Turbonetics Evolution on my T Type. Both fit fine. I'm eventually going to get another Tial for the T Type.

I think John Craig, Limit Engineering mods those gates for this issue.
Give him a shout.

I replaced my ATR gate with a Tial 38mm. My Tial locked up after about 400 miles due to running about 6-8 gallons of racegas thru it. If I had it to do over agian I would go with a Turbonectics Racegate. My ATR gate only had a damaged diaphram and everything else worked OK. I would be willing to sell my ATR gate if you wanted make one good one from the two.

I have had good luck with my ATR gate too. I had to get it rebuilt after 10 years. But it only cost $50 including shipping to John Craig. I have run hundreds of gallons of leaded gas as well. I hope it lasts another 10 years.

Success!

Thanks for all the input, folks.

I ended up buying a TIAL 38mm from Turbo Center in St. Louis.
WOW!
What a work of art.
The seat (what the ATR lacks), the valve, the housings, the fittings....wow.
It was a direct replacement for the old ATR. No mods required.

Put it on with a 14 lb. spring inside and it produced 14 lbs. boost...right on the money!
I adjusted my under-dash boost adjuster and it's spot-on 16 lbs. now-to match my 15-17 lb. Turbo Tweak chip.

The newer design..

may not have to have the flanges changed. My 2001 model did...
