I've been trying to get the damn orange puddles to stop. After replacing the heater core and radiator due to leaks everything was ok. Was out going to the store and was getting on it and the damn hose behind the motor smashes up against the only bolt that is in the firewall? I can probably make some kind of bracket (the one holding the two metal lines) to replace the old one and make the hose clear the bolt. I would like to know why this is going on. Someone mentioned before that it could be a motor mount? That is the only thing I could think of. Anyone else experiece this? If so what did you do. What are some ways I can chek the mounts? Thanks !

Not quite sure I'm followin' ya but I'll try and help since there have been no replies yet.

Is the hose moving by itself against the bolt in the firewall and doing what????
To check the motor mounts: Jack up the car and secure it with jack stands.Get under it and take a look at the motor mounts, they are easy to see under the car.Make sure the rubber isn't dislocated from the mount (ripped) or that the mount itself isn't missing any bolts or broken. But Even so, unless that hose is connected to the motor in the rear, it shouldn't be affected by a motor mount.......IMO

Are you sure you routed it back the way it was????

Yes, the hose is connected to the motor. It goes through a bracket that is screwed into the motor somewhere(forgot) but it gets pinched between the motor and the bolt and makes a hole. I believe that its the heater lines. There are two metal pipe type hoses that go along the the valve cover, at the back of the motor they turn into 2 black hoses. That is where the problems taking place. I'm going to replace the mounts to eliminate that as a posibility. Hopefully thats the problem. :( Yes everything is routed correct. Thanks for the input. :D

Sorry I'm not at home or I would Go out and look at my 84 as it wasn't leaking before I dropped the oil pan on it to find my poor crank bearings splattered all over the crank:(

Don't buy the mounts if they aren't cheap and I will check my car tonight when I get home and get back to you ASAP if you can wait a day..

Looked at mine last night when I got home.My bolt appears to have been cut off......Hmmmm!

Hmmmmm...is right! How much clearence is there behind your motor to the firewall? Also does your turbo smack against the sheild? I dont have the bolts for the shield so that might be why. As far as the bolt goes, does it look like by the clamp it would have been rubbing? I havent been able to do anything else because of the weather, but as soon as some parts get in i'll be in the shop for a couple days.:D Thanks for taking the time to reply. That might be a way to fix it. Any other ways! Would one of you hot-air brothers of mine take a look at what i'm sayin. I'm going to do the motor mounts, my mechanic friend owes me some labor hours so I'm going to have some extra hands! Installation of the V2 intake is going to start as soon as I get all my parts in. Thanks again for the reply!

There's not much room, maybe a hand width, as I had to grab a flashlight and practically climb in the engine compartment to see where the bolt was.MMMMMM - no turbo shield on mine.Someone stole it off before I bought it............Worry about that after I finish the Ground-up resto on this GNpile.

Are your hoses mounted to the Firewall back there? Mine are with a clamp that has a bolt in the center

your hoses are connected to the firewall? mine are not but i've been wondering about the bolt in the firewall, it seems to have no purpose. If yours has a clamp holding the hoses on the firewall then thats my problem.Ihave just the bolt! So there IS a clamp/bracket that is on the firewall.(maybe everything isn't routed correct) So you're doing a resto!are you doing the work yourself? Thanks for the input. When will she be done??

Doing as much as I can.I'm new to paint and body so I'll get alot of help in that department. This is my first fuel injected car so I'm looking forward to the day I'll get to use a scantool.(I think)Interior is gonna be left to the upholstry guys. But I've tore down and replaced most the parts on my 68 Chevelle and 70 Truck, so I got all the gruntwork covered.

This car is a basketcase: been sitting a while in N.M. Impound yard, I think.Looks like a theft recovery. No front clip, rt rear quarter hit, interior shot, but only from sitting with the F'n windows down!!!!The dash, instrument panel, and console are in good shape and the engine compartment looked all stock.Windshield busted.

The cat was missing, straight pipe welded in, but the exhaust is rusted out past the straight pipe.....

Estimated finish date: depends on if I aquire any more cars..:D :D

6 now and still keepin' an eye out for some good deals.

I know how that is!! Had a hand full myself! now I find myself with one! I'm currently looking for a daily driver so I can stop putting miles on the gn. Ever own a caddy? If not get one. there is no other ride like it. A while ago I found my "good deal" and got a 98 sts for 11k!! It had a book of 17,500 so I was happy. I sold it days later. I got offers all day!! What do you have now?
take it easy:D I might have a good deal on a 84 gn;)

Just an opinion, I dont know the facts, but those lines that go along the valve cover are your heating lines. One is the supply, one is the return for the heater core...The reason they go behind the motor is for teh heater control valve into the core. I found that on my car, they were kinked, and this made my heat, well, cool...SO i got a little longer hose and put a rounded tube (3/8 copper) and bent it to a smooth 90 degree, and then taped it to where the hose was kinking...I never had another heater problem, and the hose was fine. As for that bolt, I have no idea why you were hitting it, unless the motor mount was broken or bent, causing the motor to tilt back. Have you ever removed the tranny? if so, the motor may not have been supported enough to hold it way from the firewall, causing the hose to connect and puncture. Just a theory, but I cant say without seeing your car. Let me know what you find, and if that helps at all...Good luck!!!

John

all sourses point to motor mounts!! I'll be replacing them as soon as i get some parts in. Summit is taking quite a few days on my order! Maybe cause I'm too impatient;) Well if the motor mounts doent do the trick then i'll be back:cool:

If the motor is tilting back, you might want to check the trans mount.

This thread is interesting, I have the clamp on the firewall but never knew why it was there. It's in about the same place and looks the same as the wiring harness clamp on the IC cars.

where is the trans mount? is it easy to fix? yes, it seems like the motor is tilted a little causing the problem. So your bolt has a clamp on it also, COOL 84? Does it look like it holds the heater hoses? Tanks for the replies!

The trans mount is near the tail shaft of the trany, behind the tranny pan. Mine came out in two pieces when I did my tear down, so it is also a good thing to check and replace Good luck!

John

How Goes It?? The trans mount will look like a rubber rectangular block under the rear of the trans(mounts to cross-member to hold rear of trans up), before the driveshaft connects to it.Look for the rubber to be missing some chunks or coming apart.

I wish I could find a Caddy to pimp for a daily. Now my daily drivers are a 94 Ford Ranger (the parts chaser),nicknamed "the danger ranger" by my friends, and a 98 Ford Escort ZX2 for when I want to get comfortable and when I'm haulin' the ladies around town.:D

Keep us posted how it's goin..
