Another engine build by the inept...

Sorry to be so blunt, but this was rather shocking to see on an Olds board:

"So how many minutes would this have ran?

I bought a 65 442 project because of some parts that were with it. In addition it came with a ready to run short block 425 forged motor. Guy that had it said he was estimating 450-500 HP with a good set of heads.

I took it apart tonight to check things out. Enjoy..."

Those marks in the bearings are from dirt , probably in the grease used in
assembly, that will not necessarily cause any harm. That is how a bearing
is designed. There are definitely some very poor workmanship there but
if thats all there is you would be surprised how bad an engine can be and
still run. Customer just brought in an LS1 circle track engine ,very well
used. Upon disassembly discovered that all the rod bearings were collasped
a long discussion revealed that the scavenge pump belt had come off at one
time and the car was run several laps without it. Sucked the oil tank dry but
didn't put the oil back to the tank. So they put it back on a went on their
way . Not recomended but just an example of the extent that an engine
can run under the worst case situations.

The thrust bearing goes on #3 on the Olds, NOT #1! Those seem to be hammer marks to get it to fit in saddle #1!

And the #1 bearing is in #3, causing it to be off center so badly when the tang lines up.
