why dont i see anyone in the buick world using a aluminum downpipe, i see all these guys in the outlaw 10.5 class running them

Aluminum can't take the heat, or atleast standard thickness aluminum can't. Aluminum melts at 1200* or so.

Going to a thicker gauge will help, but then the price & weight go up, so what's the advantage over stainless steel? Probably nothing. My .02

I plan to move up to a 6" pipe this year. It will likely be mostly aluminum.

The first foot of mine is stainless, from the v-band down is alum and it is alot lighter. The pics aren't great but you get the idea.

Several buicks have them. They are not cost effective for most. Many other areas can be addressed for weight reduction/relocation before the downpipe is. It's easier to move weight around a g body and get it to work rather than spend a thousand dollars trying to drop 25 lbs off the downpipe only to have to add it somewhere else on the car
