Does the *excite* wire to the alternator need to have a bulb inline with it?.

What do the other 3 terminals do?. There are 4 pins on the alternator, but only one is used.....

From what ive seen, the TTA uses one of the other pins.
I had both TTAs and TRs at the same time, one day i noticed that the TTA pin was in #2 spot and TR was in #3 spot.
Well its been 3 years since ive seen that.

Possibly you can use either middle pin to excite?

Possibly find someone with both cars and see what they find?

There needs to be some resistance (lamp, resistor, or both) between the L terminal and +12V when the key is turned on. As I recall from when I worked in the lab at Delco, that terminal is an open collector transistor output. Meaning, when a fault condition occurs, the L terminal is pulled to ground and the dash lamp lights. If there is no resistance in the line, excessive current would probably toast the regulator.
