87 GN Trunk lid will not stay up

Its not my car but what would cause a trunk lid to not stay up when the trunk is opened on a 87gn? Is this common?

besides putting weight on the top of it.

I know yrs before the 87gn they had a recall on this where they put a piston in the trunk.

After years of opening and closing the springs become weaker. There are adjustment points, so you can make the springs tighter. Mine are adjusted that when the electric trunk release is hit, the trunk opens all the way up, even with a carpeted trim board on it. I used a very long screwdriver. Open the trunk and you can see where you can move the spings. BE CAREFUL!
