1st gear 2.78 is killing me, can it be changed?

Im assuming the 1st gear in my 200-4R is killing my 60 ft. time. With my set up and converter, Ive been told by several people that I should be pulling mid 1.5s. However, I keep running consistent low 1.6s. Is the 1st gear my problem because most of the guys/gals on the other board run 4L60Es in the F-bodies. Is it possible to change the 1st gear to a lower one? Thanks.

whats the car run and how much boost you leave the line with?

turbo buick motors dont need lower gears unlike the other f-body's the turbo 6 has massive torque just gotta get some boost up at the line

I run an F-body. The 200-4R is in my 2000 Camaro SS. Its bolt on cam car. Car weighs in around 3450 with me in it. Ive been stalling the car up to 2500 rpms. Im running a Yank SS4000. So the 200-4R being in a F-body LS1, do you think that I need the gear? Thanks.

I was thinking of going 4.10 since I have such a high 1st gear. I need to get out of the hole a lot faster than what Im doing now. But I wonder if I will have enough motor to do so. Id really like to do 3.73s and change out the 1st gear in the tranny. Do they make lower gears for the tranny, specifically 1st gear? Thanks.

Hrmmm.. the 200-4r has a 2.74:1 first gear, that is not really tall. It has good gear ratio spacing, and is deeper than the TH-350 at 2.52:1, TH-400 at 2.48:1, and PowerGlide at 1.82:1. The only deeper 1st gear for GM is in the 700R4 (4L60) (4L60E electronic version) at 3.06:1. The problem with the 3.06:1 1st gear is the rpm drop between 1->2 shift. IMHO, you'd be better with the 200-4R and a gear ratio change out back. I run 3.73's in the Malibu with a 200-4R, and love it. :D Good Luck with your project.
