Need advice on early 70s 4X4 Trucks

Just bought some land, time to put the truck to work- However, my old IH Scout is really hard to find parts for, and I'm gonna need to work a truck really hard to do what I need to do. Also need it to be a pickup for hauling stone. Does anyone have suggestions for early 70s 4X4 trucks that...

Stock emblem position on trunk for an 80?

OK, I lost the little piece of paper that had my pre-body work measurements. Would one of you guys with a 78-80 be willing to measure the position of the emblems on your trunk lid? Found NOS emblems, just gotta remember where they go. Thanks, George

    Early TR Gage pods?

Any of you guys with the pre-'82 TRs/Regals running aftermarket gages? How are you mouting them for visibility? I'd like to go with A-Pillar, but the dual pods I've seen on the web are for '82 and up. I'll be putting a caspers knock gage and a yet-to-be-determined boost gage in the TR...

    Dragstrip near Wake County NC?

I'd like to take my kid to a local drag race- he's starting to get interested in cars. Anybody know any tracks closer than Rockingham? Any recommendations on spectator-friendly events? Thanks, George

    Almost together...

OK, after 18 months the project is beginning to move more quickly. Hoping to have the car back on the road by end of October. Car will have a fresh engine, trans, diff, exhaust, etc. Man, did I let this snowball into a BIG project... looking forward to it. My main concern for the car after...

    No flaming, please...

Well, my search for a good crank in a 4.1 ended in buying an 87 GN engine for a good price. Now there's a switch. So I'm converting. Should be a helluva sleeper. I am keeping all pieces of the carb-turbo drivetrain for a rainy day-- or in the event that a numbers matching Sport Coupe is...

    NC folks, pls. read

Well, what I thought was a spun rod bearing turned into a trashed crank once we tore the engine down... wondering if you guys could keep your eyes open for good local 4.1 long blocks. i definitely need the crank, and am considering just building the 4.1 instead. Thanks, George

    4.1... maybe.

Well, we finally tore the engine down and the crank is destroyed  Looks like there was was front to back play prior to the rod bearing spinning. 190K 3.8, RIP. You were a great mill. Since I'll be pounding junkyards for the crank out of a 4.1 anywho, we figured why not just...

    Roller worth it?

Still putting together the budget for the rebuild... Dream engine vs. reality. Do you guys think the roller rockers/cam are worth the price on these 3.8s? The kits I've seen are around $1K  . I'd like to use them just from a reliability/endurance standpoint, but the price tag seems...

    Spun Rod Bearing-

I was intending to rebuild the mill, but not under these circumstances :( ... Pretty sure the "clank of death" is a spun rod bearing, (-fires on all 6, no smoke, valve-train looks solid, god awful racket from block) So the old TR goes in the driveway until the funds are rounded up. Is one...

    Car is trashing alternators...

I'm on my second battery and alternator in the last 2 weeks- I can't find anything overtly wrong with the system, neither can my friendly neighborhood mechanic. Once installed, the alternator runs and charges fine for about a day, or until the car gets a good highway run and warms up- then...

    Memphis adjustable tweeter?

I recieved a pair of Memphis 4X10 replacements for my old regal as a gift- the guy that gave 'em to said they had ajustable tweeters, and that this was desirable... I assume I need to fire the tweeters as far forward as possible? High freq is directional- Looks like I'll have to cut the deck...

    Restoration time, emblem troubles.

Starting the exterior restoration, and have found bumpers, bumper fillers, etc... except emblems. Does anyone know if a shop bought up the disco'd parts from Buick (like Springfield did with the Scouts)? Most Buick resto parts shops just shake their heads when I tell 'em I have an 80...

    strange gear ratio?

Hi- great board, glad to know others love these old 4v turbo regals... Can someone enlighten me on the gearing on this old buick, tho? First gear is so low that all the engine does is wind up and out, then hits second and *wham* the car is off like a bat out of hell. You have to feather...
