    New motor tapping at 2000rpm

When it comes to right now, I had no choice. Secondly, I will not pull this motor out one more time! I'm really more thinking about selling it. The only drawback is I wouldn't be able to get even half of what I have invested in it. 70% of the time I have owned it since January of 2001 it has...

    New motor tapping at 2000rpm

I just installed a reman 231 in my '84 T-Type. It sounded great at first. a week ago. I have been going as easy on it as I can considering I live in the mountains. In the last wee, it has developed a tap. I have double checked the TC bolts and they're still tight. The engine idles good, but...

    headers cracking

I know what you mean. I just had mine welded AGAIN today. The only permnent fix I know if is to buy quality aftermarket headers. The original manifolds always had this problem. Even the intercooled manifolds suffered the same.

    Oil Filter Adapter

Could you be a little more specific? I'm assuming that this is for an oil cooler. Are you using the setup like the 86-87 cars? Is it an aftermarket oil cooler? Is it even an oil cooler?

    Turbo sound aka whistle?

What I have always noticed (back when mine was running) was that it made a pleasent noise for normal driving, but when I let into it (even at 17PSI) the motor was so loud it drowned out the noise of the turbo. I have a 2.5" hooker exhaust with stock headers and downpipe. It's just always been...

My 84 3.8 Turbo Regal wont start - any ideas?

Five quarts is what you should put in. If you don't have an oil cooler (everyone should) than use an AC-Delco PF-52 filter instead of the PF-47 to gain a little more oil volume and filtration. As far as synthetics, if your car has over 50,000 miles or the motor is more than six or seven years...

    Fuel in charcoal canister?

Two things I would check for are overfilling the gas tank well beyond the shut-off point, or maybe a bad gas cap. Change out the canister filter with a new one and get a new gas cap. That should be a total of less than $10 and hopefully solve the problem. Also do not overfill the gas tank...

    '84 Exhaust

I have the Hooker exhaust on mine. It came with the car when I bought it. I think both the ATR and Hooker use the '86 and '87 exhaust flange. I think ATR sells a flange by itself to weld on your cat so the better '86-'87 exhaust will bolt up. I really don't like the sound of the Hooker...

    Speedometer dosent work anymore????

I will tell you that the MAP sensor is not only specific to the turbo Regal, but to the digital dash as well. It does not look like a conventional GM MAP sensor. This one is only two wires. It just allows a ground signal through when there's 3psi and 6psi of boost I think (at least that's how...

    Speedometer dosent work anymore????

As for the speedometer, if it's JUST the speedometer and the other two gauges work then you may have a wire loose, or a bad speedometer. Mine only works half the time right now and I've been too busy to try to fix it. With the turbo lights not working, make sure you have a vacuum line from the...

My 84 3.8 Turbo Regal wont start - any ideas?

Had a similar problem before. A nut on the starter solenoid came loose. It was where the battery cable went to. The tricky thing was it wasn't the nut that you would remove to remove the cable, but it was the nut behind it. What really got me is that is was an AC-Delco starter and that has...

    Bad fuel pump?

An audible tapping noise coming from the lower end of the motor. Checking your oil pressure would be good to do. You should see about 37psi@2400rpm.

    Bad fuel pump?

The oil pump on these cars is much easier to do than most other cars. You don't even have to remove the oil pan. In the fron of the motor where the oil filter screws on, it is screwing directly on to the oil pump. It's external. All you have to do is remove the oil filter (food time to...

Found oil inside air filter... scary bad?

Two common causes for that are as follows. A plugged PCV valve causing oil to be blown out of the breather into the air filter. Or it would have to be a massive turbo oil leak, but you'd probably notice alot of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust if it was the turbo. I'd replace the PCV...

    Good price

If it is other than the turbo it is in great shape mechanically and cosmetically, I'd take it and run! You can get a heavy duty TA-33 turbo for $850 from Postens, or you can get a stock turbo for less or even a used turbo. So even with a high performance turbo you're still only looking at...
