Good morning fellas and thanks for helping out...
This transmission was bought from a GM employee in Arlington Texas...he got it along with a unfinished hot rod project he bought from someone else (he went with a stick).. The transmission was supposed to be a fresh rebuild from the abandoned...
Wow 625 pages to search on transmissions alone...2 hours and I haven't made a final decision.
I've been building a '61 corvette for several years and am using a Buick Grand National 2004r..
(yep the real deal too) I've had the pan off and checked the valve body , governor and servo. It all...
Well darn...I have seen those sites. They point out where the tag is but my tag letter code isn't even on the example it shows..and there is no reference as to what the tag letter codes stand for. That's what I really wanted for now and future reference.
The pic of the governor is helpful...
Allrightey then Spidereyes...
Looks like you answered my question as I was typing out my last post...
I'm not into the turbo's much...in fact rarely mess with anything later than a 1972 model. But these 200-4R'S are great for the old clasic street rods too.
Thanks..
Best regards..Stan
Thanks for the video John
...I R&R's transmissions in the 70's for a living. But only for a few months...before opening my own general repair garage in Midland, Texas. This was before overdrive autos of course...
My metal tag looks like the one in the video..but has no paint on it at all...
spidereyes...
Exactly...and why I want to know for sure what I have. I trust my builder, but I'm just being cautious....especially since I haven't been in this transmission yet and "really" want to know for my own edification.
Could you tell me where you got this info from? I've looked...
I have what I believe to be a Grand National 200-4R. The metal tag to the passender side rear of the transmission near the out put shaft is: (274 872 BRF 1162).
Can someone decipher this tag for me...I can't seem to find a chart that works with these numbers.
Also...I am going to do a tear...
....one other thing if anyone knows. How many 1987 Grand National Turbo 200-R4 were built...or 1987 GN cars built, either one. They seem sorta scarce now.
Thanks...Stan..
Thanks Blazer..
You are right, the sticky has "a lot" of information...as do several of the related sites I have Googled. So much so, that I am having a very hard time what to do for my particular application. That is why I was soliciting some input from folks that have actually used one of...
Hello gents and others..
I know this has been discussed to death...but here goes. I just purchased a 1987 Buick GN turbo 200-4R transmission, supposedly with a new stock rebuild.
The seller is a nice guy ..straight shooter I believe, but doesn't know particulars about the rebuild since...
