Ngk or Autolite Spark Plugs

Which part is manufactured in the Country with the highest level of quality control?

Either will work in the correct heat range, get ready for the can of worms you just opened:)

OK, my 2-cents. Since you didn't mention which heads are on the engine. For Buick iron heads AutoLite #144 is a great choice.

Resistor, non-extended tip, copper core, great price. Can't go wrong.

Some gentleman that has a racing shop in OKC, which used to care for my GN 35 k original miles. Un modified told me to use auto lite #24’s. Just my two cents

Yeah, I should have mention that I'm running the stock 8445 heads.

Take a look at the quality for yourself. Go to parts store and pull 3 or 4 plugs of each......ac delco, autolite, champion and ngk. Look at the the ground strap centering over the electrode, the electrode centering in the thread barrel right out of the box. The NGK's have always passed the test for me!!!

I have always been a fan of NGK's myself. I have them in just about pretty much everything I own, but I just wanted to hear what others thought about the Autolites.

There are a wide range of good plugs out there I run AC in my GN gapped at .028.

This a little different but still a Buick. I switched my SC 3800 over to E85 and it had NGK 61X Iridium plugs in the car and it ran great on these plugs on 93 pump. But not on E85. The guy tuning the car was going crazy because the wideband was all over the place. The car was running lean and the more fuel he added the worse the car ran and still lean. He recommended changing the plugs. We changed to Autolite 104's and the car runs like a beast! lol Back to regular scheduled programming.

I know that I have noticed the taper (seat) on my AC Delco R42TS changed. 4 out of 6 plugs matched and the other 2 matched. I noticed them while gapping. I took them all back and went thru a few boxes to get a matched set. I work on this car about 1.5hrs away in class and just wanted keep the thing running until its painted so I didnt pay too much to the details. But something has changed. I like the Autolites 144's. Havent used the NGK's or any of the triple tip Iridiums. John Force tells me personally on his commercials that I need to switch to the E3's to get into the winners circle . I did notice that those were not able to be gapped tho.

Thats not a fair assessment tho not trying fresh NGK plugs to see. Ive seen this before when tuning ....plugs can get glazed, worn, fouled as different AFRs, etc are tried duringh the tuning process and then a fresh set of plug from another brand gets put in and then the car runs better when all the while a new set of the other plugs were never tried.

You could be right I might have been able to go back to the NGK's with no problems? You can't gap them though and they come at .050. I prefer .040 on the 3800 it just seems to work better for me. The 104's are very popular and proven to work well on these cars with mods.

Those two sparkplugs are totally different styles. The issue might the the iridium style that was the issue, not the brand. I haven't heard iridium plugs doing well with TBs, maybe the 3800 doesn't respond as well to them either.

X2..they have been great in my car...gapd@28

Question regarding the gap...if someone was running maybe 17 psi on 93 pump what is the benefit of running the smaller gap at 0.028 or 0.030?? Would the tighter gap have any impact on how the car runs at idle or normal street driving? I understand that with higher boost that gaps should be tightened up to prevent spark blow out.
