Whats up guys!! I bought a mr.gasket thermostat that was listed for our cars from advance but it didnt fit(to big). Do any of the local part stores carry our 160 thermostat or my only option is to order from a vendor?

All you need is a pair of tin snips to make that bigger one work.

Oh, and a drill to make a steam hole.

Make sure you keep your old thermostat because you're probably going to hate your heater since you're be forcing the engine to run too cold.

the mr gasket one cant be trimmed the body is too large , just get the stant superstat for an 80s 350 chevy and trim it to 44mm, theres a ring groove stamped into it just trim along inside edge of groove

You know I installed a 160* and in the winter on cold days , Minus 30 it only takes a few min to be blowing very warm . I guess I'm lucky cause the car will run 160 to 170 during the cold weather .

There's a 160* stat from Autozone that fits w/o any trimming. I can't seem to find the number for it though. I think it's a Duralast 15356

Ok cool thanks. I'll look it up on their website and see who has it near me

I just came from AutoZone and brought my original thermostat. The duralast 15356 is still bigger than the orignal. They pulled the item # and its for a non turbo car. Is this the correct item that just needs trimming?

it needs to be trimmed but doesnt look like that part has a ring to trim to
i checked my AZ for the drop in 160 stat which is part # 7203-160 and they dont keep it on the shelf and they are the eastern hub , they can order it and itaround 19.00 , its also a failsafe stat which Im not thrilled with the design
i run the stant superstat 45356 which has a groove to guide you when you trim it and can be had for around 7 bucks from advance auto, be aware the super stat seems to be made from stainless and is a little harder to trim than the standard stat

Odds are you bought a 195* thermostat (just like you started with).

The box had duralast 15356 on it. Maybe The boxed it wrong. I gave up and ordered the the fail safe one. Hopefully it'll be here in the A.M.

They need to look under “Alternate temperature”

Or the sales rep will just tell you they don’t have one.

I usually shop online so I don’t have to deal with the sales rep.
