Hi All,
How do you remove the manual shaft seal? according the the attached PDF file, it's claiming to remove the Retaining Pin (703).
Is the Retaining Pin (703) located outside of the tranny housing or do I have to drop down the tranny pan?
The reason for this is to replace the manual shaft seal (701)
Thanks

There is a special tool to remove this without removing the shaft. Otherwise you need to remove the retaining pin a pull the shaft out and pry the seal out. The pin is inside the trans. Dropping the pan would be necessary.

Mr Bison,
Do you know what type of special tool is needed? where can I get one? I really don't what to drop this pan again, I did this about 3 times since the gasket for the Art Carr deep pan was leaking. I used rubber twice, and then rubber/fiberglass compound gasket. I did checked the tranny pan for warped, and a straight edge level, all was fine. I mean if I have to drop the pan down then I will, but if there is a special tool that would be appreciated.

Matco, Snap On, Mac, Cornwell all can get the tools. One removes the seal over the shaft and the other "presses" it into place. I think it is an OTC tool. I have the GM ones and one Chrysler 727-904 tool.

Thanks for the info
727-904 is for Chrysler or for both?

Has anyone replace this manual shaft seal? If so where did you get the replacement, part number and maker? Thanks

What Bison says on the tool . If that pin ( looks like a small nail ) is stuck , you can break it off . Ask me how I know . :(

Your closest GM dealer on the seal or a local transmission shop .
Thanks for the info and yes both location would be the best place for replacement.
Have you replace this manual shaft seal without dropping the pan down?

NAPA part number NOS 4912 for the seal. KD tools #2393 for the tool to replace/install the seal without dropping the pan.

Thank you for all of the info I needed, I did find another place online of the seal, cheap, but the shipping was very costly, more than the part and tool. Your info is way better since I have a NAPA close by. Thanks again Guys for all your help

I goggle this and only found an $80.00 plus, I even asked NAPA if they had a tool to remove this seal since Dwayne Martin told me where to find the seal, and they said they didn't have one and don't know where one can be located; lazy A_ _hole
I did checked and yes online for $6.99 + S/H, you can also buy it in store, $7.20 after I checked a different NAPA location

Thanks SSedan64 for the info.
