TTA Trans

Looking into TTA so need to arm myself with useful facts. Went to turbo trans am website but didn't find part numbers to verify authenticity of the vehicle's driveline components. I know the spoiler has been replaced with another one as well as a turbo upgrade and bigger injectors. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

It is very similar to a BR-F. The picture shows what you will be looking for from the outside. Contact me if you need any more info..

The valvebody is the only difference.

A GN or Monte Carlo, BRF or CZ trans will work just fine.

Excellent info gentlemen. Keep it coming please. So far I know...
FWD heads
SS headers
SS exhaust tips
Special gas tank but how can one tell it apart externally?
Is the rear end 7.5"?
Bigger intercooler like GNX 12 row
Anything else to check for?

The speedometer hook up is also diffrent because gn has a mechanical speedometer and the tta is electric

I'm not 100% that is on the trans...I think that is on the back of the speedo.

I bought a GN trans and it bolted right in...

the tta has a vss/vehicle speed sensor which you plug electrical wires into. the gn has a speedometer bullet which is mechanical and you screw a speedometer cable onto.

i know this for a fact because 1 of my we4's had a blown tranny and my tta had the engine out of it and the tranny was dangling there so i pulled it out and it bolted right in BUT the vss sensor was diffrent and i believe the tranny mount was diffrent and i didnt chance it so i didnt use the tv cable either.

The valve body, the plate between the v-body & case, a 10 vane front pump, and I think a different governor. It also used a VSS at the trans instead of in the cluster. That has no effect on the trans though.

As for the gas tank they were the same as any fuel injected Firebird. The intercooler was not any bigger it was more efficient. The GN,TTA & GNX all had the same size intercooler but the TTA had more fins per. inch. The GNX had even more.

All good stuff to know. Thanks a bunch! Thought I had read about the fuel tank having a sump to keep a steady fuel supply when cornering. Maybe it was a different application? Like a pilot car for example? Anyway, all the TTA specifics are welcome!

That same gas tank goes all the way back to the '82 cross fire fuel injected F-bodys.

There was no governor in the TTA. The buicks had a governor for safety reasons. Air would get under the front end and lift it off the road so buick limited the top end to 120 mph. The TTA ran 171 straight away speed at Indy and 155 lap speed.

Both Steve K. and Jarredsoon are correct. The tank is baffled, no sump. The tank is an F body tank (firebirds & camaro's).

Frank, I'm talking about a transmission governor. Not a engine governor.

Hi Steve,

I'm not sure what you are talking about? Are you talking about the servo? If so, it's a Corvette servo. I'm sorry but I'm at a loose here. Would you please explain
this to me so I can understand. I have never heard of this but I'm willing to learn.
