LS Swap in a GN Not a fan!

All this talk about ruining a GN has got me kind of baffled. What in the world do you call these TSM,TSO,TSL cars out there that have the A/C gutted, frames notched, Welded in cages, fuel tanks removed & holes drilled in the trunk like swiss cheese, factory sheet metal removed & replaced with fiberglass but that's okay? LOL,

At least he can simply just install the V6 any time he wants and no body would know (except for the shifter hole) lol

My point is this: There are a bunch of purists out there that just because it still has the v6 in it that it happens to just slide right by them as if nothing is wrong but as soon as someone does something "Different" then they all wig out... Just don't make sence to me, stand back for one minute and look at the big picture and how these GN,TR's are really being "Hacked up" instead of looking through blinders.

Kid, You done one hell of a job on your car and don't let anyone tell you different, Come back and show them more when it's done!!

I asked Jason to elaborate because I didn't understand his post. Not because I thought he was attacking me.

The way the other guys post is written, as he's talking about me "tossing the v6", how can I not perceive that as directed at me? And I stand by what I said in that post. Saying "anyone can swap in a ls1 and a 6speed" is not a compliment BTW.

Being young has nothing to do with it.... It's about respect. If you don't like it, cool that's fine, but to call me stupid or ignorant because of what I did to MY car is downright childish; and I'm willing to bet everyone who has is older than me.

I was referring to WeSS saying that your car was nice. I actually agree with Scot, I like it, I think it's cool. There are things I would have done differently, but overall I think it came out really good for a guy that built it in his garage. I would rather do what Stroker did to his than put a cage in mine, by a LONG shot, and I would be more inclined to buy a car like this than a former caged car.

This all turned out bad, when really I think if we were all sitting around at a track this conversation would have been a lot more civil.
 
I like the fact that he is not letting it sit until completed and then drive it. He has a plan and has done a great job on it already.

I only wish there was more information about wiring, mounts and stuff. Not that I plan on doing the exact same thing:)

I agree with most of what you wrote, but WHY that last phrase?...I currently have a 6pt. roll bar in my car and I could have it removed at any time and nothing would show that the car ever had one...:redface: The floor pan can always be replaced with a new one...

If it's one like yours that could disappear without the car being affected, I wouldn't mind. I just have no desire to have a permanent jungle gym in my GN. If it was just a Regal, hell yeah I wouldn't care, but I love my gn. :tongue:

I think it's funny he wanted a reliable 550hp car and it lets go right after he gets it done. My 3.8 is more reliable than that and can do the 550.

I would take a LSx turbo set up over a v-6 turbo set up any day. But I wouldn't do it to an original turbo 6 buick. Kinda sacreligious IMO.

EDIT: Maybe I would. After thinking about it. Anything can be "redone" to these cars or any other car for that matter.
What ever is installed, removed, or cut can be uninstalled, replaced, or repaired.


Seems like his donor engine was a turd to begin with. Had oiling isuues from the start.
Never drop a ''used'' engine in without doing a thorough inspection 1st. Pulling heads, intake, oil pan while engine is on the stand is a whole lot easier than waiting 'til you have it installed and it ****s the bed 2 days later.

Some people are flaming this guy for doing this to an original GN. What about the guy that is trying to go 9's in his and leaves bits and pieces up and down the track. That car is no longer a numbers matching car. Owning a #'s matching 69 396 SS camaro I can tell you that when a car becomes a valued collector car if it doesn't have the correct powerplant there could be anything sitting under the hood.

Yeah I built the entire car in my garage in my spare time in about 3 months total. The week of leave I took got the engine out and the new one in. Everything else you mentioned is also true.




Slower in a G body? Why don't you look around, there are alot more Ls powered g body cars than you think. Maybe you should do some research before sounding ignorant next time. And show me how many 6spees converted gBody cars there are, not "everyone" can do it.

I think your car is sweet and you own it so do what you want with it and I support it. It doesn't matter to me any what you do with your car. Like someone previously said chill out. I was just stating the whole love it or hate it thread you started. I think you wanted to get bent out of shape and that's why you made the thread. I personally love the car and think for what you started and the fab work in a short time was very well done and with good results.

I have owned many TR's and other cars. Unlike you I am secure in my life and don't need to start threads asking for love it or hate it comments to just start going off on people. I clearly stated the idea of slap an LS1/6 speed in it and it will be fast/reliable idea is over doing it. You proved this with two problems with it from the get go. Just like any fast car there is not an easy button. Also there are quite a few g bodies with 6 speed swaps in general not just LS combos. I personally know a few guys that share a pre fab building in town here with nothing but Olds Cutlass cars. They all have 5 or 6 speed manuals in them with what most would call junker olds engines. LOL They stomp my a$$ with them things. They put a hurting on many LS guys out there too. Why? Because they build it right and put a lot of R&D into it. Not to say an LS built right won't get the job done but again it was a point to the phrase slap an LS1/6 speed in it and it will be the bomb. LOL If that is the case then I'm slapping a Viper ACR X engine into my SS montecarlo because in reality that is a much stronger engine. However I'm not obsessed with the $hit that much.

As far as I'm concerned I would take any g body and ride it out no matter how slow or fast it is because I like them. I don't think they are ideal cars for speed compared to many other cars out there. I would never want to roll race a ZR1, Z06, Viper, Supra, etc. with a g body anyways. But if you're inclined to do so please keep it up and show us how your 6 speed LSjuan is the best and when it puts down a better time than any other G body v6/ gen 1 or 2 sbc out there be sure to post the video of it!
 
And I want to say thank you to those people who were respectful in their opinions as to why they didnt like it and not acting like retards.

And another thank you to the guys who liked it, I'm currently re working a ton of stuff and promise that when it's done on the spring it will be 100 times better.

Glad I didn't write it completely wrong! I usually don't take "sides" as this is a car forum for my hobby, but I still enjoy reading about unique projects. We are building a 76' TA right now that we are dropping in a blown LS2. Should make right around 650 at the wheels and I know it is cheaper and more reliable then a V6. I have worked on and raced the v6's ever since I can remember, but the LS motor is the new kid on the block that is here to stay...

I will never sell the gn or tta we currently have, or even put a V8 into those, but my next project will include a gbody with an LS motor.

man are you guys going to be pissed when i post my build of my turbo lsx gn. although my car isnt as nice as his car is.

you guys need to relax and stop being so butthurt about what hes doing to his car. you guys dont own the market on TRs.


and btw ill put up and stock bottom end turbo ls vs stock bottom end 109. and well see what goes faster for longer. w/ and w/o meth.

Yeah, or I'll put my car with John Force's detuned motor against your Prius any day. That comparison just doesn't make any sense. Now if he had said stock bottom end N/A LS1 vs a stock bottom end turbo 231, then we'd be getting somewhere :D
 
I still think his swap was cool and considering he did it himself its even cooler. No different than that Turbo Diesel TR or the guy on here that did the Gen 2 V6 from an F Body. There aren't too many manual trans G Bodies and that in itself is unique.

"and" you lack of grammar :D "man up"? Isn't that a Sarah Palin thing now? :D I like his swap but I stand by what I previously said about your comparison. His swap is cool, I get the "hack job" and it's purpose. That car is awesome!
