I won't be doing an LS conversion to my 86 GN, but if I run across a roller 86-87 GN /T /or TType it will be done. As stated before, the LS engines are amazing, very reliable and can make mad horsepower with any power adder. Very easy to work on and replacement parts are cheap and plentiful.

On this note, complete long blocks (LQ4-LQ9's) can be had for $500.00, with wiring harness in some cases here in the San Diego area, especially down by the Mexico border. You can't loose with them as far as being cost effective to build up. I do however like a clean, well planned out install.

Boost-Box however if I remember correctly took a weeks leave from the Military to get the conversion done, working out of his garage, limited tools, family obligations etc. I have respect for anyone thinking outside the box, living on a budget with no real time on his hands. Most importantly, he learned to do it himself through trial and error, and can only improve on it when time permits. It's his car, so he should do as he pleases with it without all the chastising. :D

Either way you look at it. It's unique, it's cool and most of all, it's still a GM product.

If I remember correctly..... he had major issues with his wastegate actuator...... and that 9 second pass was on stupid low boost.

You are correct. I would have to go back and dig up the logs, but I went low 9's at around 15psi. This was a LS1 with factory heads and a hydraulic cam.

This post is Awesome!

I think this thread is funny. Nice car, nice wheels, good concept but the whole idea of oh just slap an LS1 and a 6 speed in there if you want it fast is ignorant. First of all in the F body everyone I've seen with LS1 6 speeds thinks they are the fastest around. In reality it is no different than a TR or anything else. Making power, making it fast, and making it reliable requires expertise. Tuning and build is very important. Anybody can build a turbo v6 and try to do it right but make mistakes and take it out racing and blow it up. Just like anybody can slap an LS1/6 speed in and do the same. However people like we have on this board who get the most out of the least with the time dedicated to it can make anything fast. Racing is part bank account part knowledge/commitment!

It's kinda poetic justice because how he just nonchalantly said oh well the hell with the v6 junk. I ditched the turbo v6 because of lack of ability to afford, build, and maintain it. I went with a v8 that's a lot slower in a g body non Buick because that was what I wanted. When someone sees it and asks is it faster than my old TR I rofl

I agree 100%!! Just ask Cal Hartline, If i'm not mistaken he put in a stock LS1 with a set of heads and threw on a turbo in "HIS GN" and took it to the LSX fest and ran low nines or something. Dollar for dollar you just can not build a 109 v6 to run nines for what you can a LS engine PERIOD!

To reinforce my point the above mentioned fellow is one of the best tuners and racers over a long period of time. What he can do with anything would eclipse most of us. Again tuning and knowledge to go with the bank account.

Wow. Thanks to the people in this thread that AREN'T Speaking out of their ass like the OP. I'm on my phone right now, I'll respond to this when I get home.

By the way, the motor DID NOT let go. I pulled it apart last weekend and everything was fine inside, the turbo is what went bad.

So suck on that haters. Keep on hating on something you'll never be able have :)

We have had great luck and a ton of fun with Mike Bamfords LSx Regal conversion. No engine issues what so ever and for dollar to dollar it outruns any 109 turbo Buick engine ever made. We get more attention with a turbo lsx under the hood than a V6 on the street.

Dude, that's a ballsy project and I like it. Definitely different. Wheels look bada$$ too. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Honestly stroker ace, that's not the way to go about it either. I know it sucks when people dog on your for something, but telling them to suck it isn't the way to go. Lots of people on here that hadn't previously seen your build posted positive comments, you should focus on that. I like it myself.

I am going to put some sort of FI ls motor in my 85 Regal, that way I won't have to chop up my GN. It's a heckuva motor...

lol!!! you come on a v6 turbobuick board with your chevy v8 & manual transmission swap, and label the thread "love it or hate it", then get all defensive and smart alec when people give their "hate it" opinions.

it was really fun hacking into this car with a sawzall and a grinder:wink:

i would recomend taking some deep breaths and some chill pills before you start in on the "suck on that haters" with your next post

differant strokes for differant folks. everybody do what you want with your own car:)

After all that work having to pull the engine twice now is not nice. But $hit happens.
My 350 TPI with factory alum heads sucked the head gasket rings into the cylinders in less than 500 miles. When we changed to AFR heads about 1000 miles later the gaskets were showing signs of being sucked in again so we installed three piece metal head gaskets. The heads and blocked were machined by a top engine machinist here in OC. Too bad he moved to ID.

Personally I would have gone with a regular G body with a 305, but its his car so he can do whatever. Like the guy who won the HR fastest street cars butchered a perfect chevelle into a drag car.

Lot's of pics of the swap. He wanted a reliable 550hp car? Check the end of the thread and see what happened. hahahahhahahahahaha:p

Thanks for promoting my car more!!!!

lol...

i love that hack job exhaust.

what a dork.

A.j.

Yeah sweet hack job exhaust. Maybe if you had read the thread, you would have understood it's purpose. But coming from someone who has never even owned one of these cars, your insult means nothing to me.

I think it's funny he wanted a reliable 550hp car and it lets go right after he gets it done. My 3.8 is more reliable than that and can do the 550.

Wait a minute, didn't your car only dyne out around 400 something? And did YOU do all the work to it? And how much money do you have invested in your car????? I'll await your answers because I can feel the backpedaling already.

Yeah I built the entire car in my garage in my spare time in about 3 months total. The week of leave I took got the engine out and the new one in. Everything else you mentioned is also true.

Slower in a G body? Why don't you look around, there are alot more Ls powered g body cars than you think. Maybe you should do some research before sounding ignorant next time. And show me how many 6spees converted gBody cars there are, not "everyone" can do it.

Karma's a bitch buddy.

Jason

Yeah it is. Don't see how karma got me though, care to elaborate?

LOL, there is a difference between opinions and attacking someone. You obviously don't know the difference between the two so you can just move along like the rest and come back when you have a better response.

And I want to say thank you to those people who were respectful in their opinions as to why they didnt like it and not acting like retards.

And another thank you to the guys who liked it, I'm currently re working a ton of stuff and promise that when it's done on the spring it will be 100 times better.

Dude, you need to go take a muscle relaxer, step away from the computer for about an hour. Then come back, unplug your keyboard so you don't do anything rash, and reread this thread. Then plug it back in and resume life

Jason (Quiky One) wasn't talking to you about the karma. He was saying that to someone else. If anything, he was taking your side. I bet he won't now.

I would also reread WeSS's post. The way I took it is that he now has a Monte Carlo SS (hence the username) with a gen 1 sbc in it. Therefore it's slower than his old GN. He really wasn't attacking you, he actually paid you some compliments, but you sure did attack him and call him ignorant.

I know you are young, I've been there too (I'm not much older than you) and you take it personally when **** like this happens. Just breathe, calm down, and don't come flaming everyone that may or may not be mouthing about your car. If they don't like it, who cares, it's your car not theirs.

My .02

I asked Jason to elaborate because I didn't understand his post. Not because I thought he was attacking me.

The way the other guys post is written, as he's talking about me "tossing the v6", how can I not perceive that as directed at me? And I stand by what I said in that post. Saying "anyone can swap in a ls1 and a 6speed" is not a compliment BTW.

Being young has nothing to do with it.... It's about respect. If you don't like it, cool that's fine, but to call me stupid or ignorant because of what I did to MY car is downright childish; and I'm willing to bet everyone who has is older than me.

Thank you for your input.

And I'm far from needing a muscle relaxer.

And another thank you to the guys who liked it, I'm currently re working a ton of stuff and promise that when it's done on the spring it will be 100 times better.

I'm one of those guys who like it. I just hope you get all the "bugs" sorted out soon and that you'll write again about the progress you will have made. And if some guys are shocked because you did this with a GN, it's THEIR problem. It's YOUR car and you do whatever you want to do with it.
Good luck and keep up the good work!

Claude.
