Trans not down shifting when cars stops

Hey Guys,

I bought a new transmission with a few goodies inside from Extreme Automatics. After getting the transmission installed, I didn’t even get a chance to put no more than 50 miles before I had engine failure. Before I had the engine failure, I noticed the transmission would not make the down shifts on its own after coming to a complete stop. I would have to place the transmission in Neutral then place it back in D for it to return to first gear. If I don’t perform this procedure, the car will try to start in D. This happened as soon as the transmission was installed and not over time. What would cause this? Can I fix this, or should it be looked at by the builder? Does anyone else have to do this on a new build from them?

Another thing I noticed, when I make a WOT blast from a stop in Drive, the transmission makes the 1-2 shift perfect I think, but as soon as it gets to 2nd it immediately goes to 3rd leaving no room for the RPM’s to go up in 2nd. Is this normal? Can I fix this or should it be looked at by the builder?

Reason asking, I have a new motor coming and I don’t want to be going through the transmission blues when it arrives. I hope I don’t have to ship this thing back out and really have to explain I didn't hardly place any miles on it and being it's past the 1yr Warranty :frown:

Thanks in adavnce for any input!!

I’m trying to get all opinions and suggestions on top of what the builder has to say when I can talk with him.

Contact Extreme Automatics, Lonnie Diers. Being out of the one year warranty I don't know what his response would be regarding warranty but he will be able to diagnosis your problem. Go to his website and begin there.
He's very service oriented but very busy. Good luck

?????

Have you contacted Lonnie?? IMO, that would be the first thing to do. I know if I had built the trans I would want to try to correct the problem before you aired it here. Just saying!!! Can't blame you for not wanting to have to ship it, but contact Lonnie before asking advise here.

I agree 100%, nothing wrong with getting advice and info but I would have contacted the vendor first. Lonnie is dedicated to 100% customer sastifaction

Before this heads in the wrong direction, this was not a post to BASH Lonnie. I said in my post I tried to contact him and was getting the Voice mail and wanted feed back from the board while waiting on him to get back to me. Being that is was over a year, he could tell me to go screw myself and I couldn’t even complain about it. If that were to be the case I would simply just go and buy another one!! Case closed.

I had the exact same problem w/ a PT Extreme tranny. I took it to Richard Clark and he took the VB apart and we found the 1-2 valve was installed incorrectly with the pin wedged between the valve sleeve and valve body and not into the notch. This was in a relatively new tranny never opened and was like that from the beginning.

TV cable set correctly. Loos eTV cable will cause early shifting sometimes

A stuck TV valve in the VB will cause 2nd gear starts and no downwshift to first at a stop

Quick way to sometimes get the TV valve freed is to floor the car all the way and release 20 times in a row. Engine off of course.
