fwd roller and non roller cam parts in gn motor w/pictures

I'm working on a 4.1 block and stroker kit----it shouldn't be too much longer before we see what its going to do.

If you're using the budget roller idea please post some pics of how you've done it. I'd like to see how you're retaining the lifters please.

I have a couple of the spiders, brand-new.

I need lifters and dogbones. Anyone going to a JY soon?

I wonder if LT1/vortech dogbones would work.

Anyone have data?

Bob

Bob,
I got my dogbones, and spider out of a 3.8 FWD 1986 Olsmobile
at Pull a Part.
My lifters cam out of a Pontiac Grand Am 3.1 V-6 that already had
the intake removed.

All my stuff cost me $40.00

up date-pushrod length

Changed pushrods,so I wanted to share my results. If anyone one is running a combo similar to mine your results will be simliar but not the same so make sure you check pushrod length because every engine is different. My pushrod length @ zero lash(no pre-load) is 8.340".Using the comp formula off adding
.030" for pre load I get 8.370". my combo is 218 roller with steel shim head gaskets and 1.55 rockers. As far as the springs go,champion has the part number and sell the springs they used for the hydraulic rollers before the bee-hives,so you can keep the cost down by using those.I don't remember part#,but I'm sure someone can chime in those spring#'s.If anyone else is running fwd lifters and dog bones please chime in with your specs..hopefully this will help others who want to use this set up.

cool.

Still looking for a set of dogbones.

I got new delphi lifters from ebay, 79.00 for the set

fwd roller lifters/dog bones

After a few electrical bugs and re-doing all my ground wires, engine is running great and very tight.I honestly cannot hear my valve train, but my exhaust surely sounds good and I'm sure others running this set-up will agree.oil pressure is perfect, between 60-70psi cold and 20psi hot.my cam lift is .511/.503 .....So there is no issues with lifters in lifter bore with this big of a cam.My bearing clearance on mains and rods is .002..If there is anyone else doing this build, please feel free to post your progress or ask any questions you may have..It's been a fun build and now it's time to get her tuned up for some street driving..

Glad to here this. It may be the ticket I've been looking for. Gotta read the whole thread again for sure.

fwd roller cam parts

I have had mine running for the last 6 months with no issues. :)

Yeah,It would gave been nice if buick would have had these cars with roller cams from the factory. It would have saved everyone alot of time, money and headaches rebuilding engines with wiped cam lobes..

I'm still looking for Dog Bones.

Does anyone know for sure if the small block chevy ones (like from an LT1) will work?

Can the stock FWD 3800 valve springs be used with a mild (206/206) roller? What kind of specs did the stock roller cam use? Are the heads on the fwd 86/7s the same as ours?

No heads are not the same,Not sure if the springs would work. You would have to take them to machine shop to check specs to see if they will work with the 8445 heads..spring pressure and installed height will be a important factor.

Update on mine..... I am finally getting around to re-assembling my motor.... had a spun cam bearing due to dirt dobber building a nest in my oil hole feeding that cam bearing prior to assembly I think ........ so with that fixed....I think I am going to try one more time to install the stock Hyd Roller stuff....... I do have a new set of Morrel's and new pushrods.... but want to give the stock setup one more try. Everyone keep your fingers crossed my motor had good hot idle oil pressure.....

I had a problem using aftermarket lifters (Speed Pro) in my build. Lifters were noisey and when the engine was shut off for a day or two every lifter that had a valve open had collapsed. Put GM lifters in and problem solved. Quiet valve train and no collapsed lifters on startup. :)

SpeedPro lifters made to directly replace the stock hyd. roller lifters? ..... like the type to be used with a spider?

or the aftermarket retro-fit hyd. roller lifters with the linkbar.....???
