I'm running a stock, factory assembled long block in my 87 GN with a TA-49 turbo. Whats the fastest anyone's gone with this combo, along with the other usual bolt-on's ?

87' GN-Mid 11's

I am curious also as I still have stock unported heads and would like to lay down a 11.0 this summer if possible on the TA49 around 28psi.

My GN should be mid 11's this year with my new bolt ons. I'm running a TA48 which is as close to the 49 as it comes. Untouched longblock.

My best (so far) in my sig. TA-49 with a Garrett housing. Might pick up a little with a Precision housing....

Mine is no where near the fastest, but I went 11.53 and 118.31 with a TA49 (Garrett Housing)/THDP/Big neck stock intercooler/275-60 BFGDR's/Bluetops and a Thrasher 108 chip with 23 psi boost. Motor was 100K mile, unopened stock. Car weight was around 3575 with me and 60 fts were in the 1.65 range.

Thanks for the response, everyone. Seems like I saw a post a few months back where someone had gone 11.00's with this basic combo. Maybe not.
Regardless, I have run a best of 11.15 @119+mph w/ 1.57 60ft.
Gonna keep trying to squeeze a tad bit more out of this combo if I can......

87'GN , factory un-opened longblock,TA-49 turbo, houston d/p, 2.5" catback exh, V-2 frt mnt I/C, Red's 107 chip, dbl. pumper, volt booster, Tinman 4" Cold-air intake, Hemco upper plenum, 1-air bag, ATR rr sway bar, race wt. approx 3600#.

Those times are great for a 49. A guy I know with a bolt on car ran 10.96 @121 with a 54 at 30+lbs with a 1.51 60' in 50 degree weather. I would have thought 11.40-11.50 would be about as good as it gets with a 49 and a stock motor.

From what I read the car was light and he had a liquid intercooler. I am not saying it can't be done, but realistically 11.50 is good for a 44 or 49. That will be at 25lbs+ on a stock motor.

The fastest I have seen a TE34 go is 11.48 @118 with a 1.57 at 25lbs in a WE4 car in good air.

I Remember reading about Kent Rudbeck and Red A going high 10's w/a TA-49, but that was years ago and the engines were no where near "factory stock" and cars were at 3500# i believe. That was back in the mid 90's when the TA-49 was the biggest Buick turbo avaliable.
But I'm talkin stk longblock, 3600# street cars here.
SWEET6, do you know the combo of the fella who ran the 10.96 W/ ta-49 & bolt-on's? ...........Now that's SCREAMIN' !!

That was with a 54 not a 49. His car was probably 3600+ with him in the car. It had the usual bolt ons. 50s, FM, 9 inch converter, 340 pump, 3 inch, DP, etc. He said his boost guage was pegged at 30lbs the whole run. And he had a 1.51 or 1.52 60' time. He used 28X10 slicks.

I just bought a GT32 for my TTA. I hope it runs 11.50s at 25lbs.

Wow, 11.15 without heads is impressive.

The advantage we have today is the MT Street Drags, alky kits, maf translator and better chips.

What tires are you using 6Gun?
Not like your 60ft needs some help, but you might be able to squeeze a slightly lower 60ft with the new MT's.

Are you using a manual boost controller?
What about your TQ converter?

Thanks, SWEET6,
Dr.BOOSTER, I was running 28x10 Hoosier slicks, 114oct race fuel, massaged stk MAF, & no manual boost control(yet, but just ordered a RJC unit yesterday). Just the factory set-up w/adj. rod.
Going out this weekend. See if I can sueeze a little more out of this combo before I upgrade my turbo.
;)TT/A, that's screamin on alky!!

The manual is going to get you over the top as long as you do not roast the hell out of your tires. You should notice a nice spool up increase that should get your 330 a tad better.

Stock maf huh, translator is another 10hp and spool up goes up some more.

What converter?

I bet with at least a similar 60ft and the manual boost controller, you get an 11.0.

I think the TA-49 is under-appreciated. See my sig for my best time, and that's on 100-OCTANE GAS, about 24-25psi of boost.

Stock unopened long block. Only items I've replaced in the engine are the timing chain and valve springs. Heads have never been off the engine.

TA-49 with Precision 0.63 housing, CAS-V2, TinMan cold air kit, T+ with 3" LT1 MAF, ATR 2.5" Duals, THDP, 57 lbers, Walbro 340. Pulled about a 1.60 short-time off the foot brake. Hoosier 26"X9" slicks mounted on stock GN rims.

It all comes down to tuning at the end of the day. I've been running this combination for 3 years now, so I've learned what to do with it pretty well.

Hey, I think it is the "Tin Man" cold air set up that makes this possible. ;-)
I heard, at Norwalk today someone with a similar combo to 6GUN ran 10.95.
That is kickin` butt!
And with a ta-49 yet!
Vey impressive, and congrats!
