I'm going to try to make a long story short, but it may not work.
before i start: 86 GN, hotwired 8k mile stock fuel pump, adj fpr, adj wastegate, k&n, and a lil work to the rear.
I recently pulled my stock transmission due to very excessive slippage during the 2-3 shift that brake fluid could no longer keep under control. A friend gave me a 2004r from a monte ss that had undergone a several hundred dollar build from a very well known and respected local transmission shop, and i put that in my car in place of my stock trans, and sold the stock trans.
About a week and a half ago, while taking a quick top-end blast down interstate 95 in philadelphia on the way to a race spot, my driveshaft failed at approx 115 mph (3000rpm in overdrive), and twisted my transmission, breaking the bellhousing. Luckily, there was no damage other than the exhaust being tore down, girdles ripped out of the rear, and broken driveshaft (it split in two) and trans. This was my first ever driveshaft incident, and i must say it scared the living hell out of me, but I know i'm lucky to be alive.
I work on my car on a VERY tight budget, and spending 700+ for a tranny is not feasible. The trans in my car needs to go to the junkyard, and I need a new one. With the mods i have sitting on the shelf waiting to go in, I expect mid 12's, but have plans to go a little faster.
so let me get to the question:
Can I have a non-BRF 2004r built to handle the torque of a GN, and will it work properly?? Do I have any other alternatives for transmissions?? OD isn't exactly a necessity, but would be nice. I'm trying to be as budget minded as possible.
