Cheapest route (if you're buying a car) is to rent the tow dolly from U-HAUL. Usually 85$ or less if you return it to the same place you rent it. I'm sure some locations are different prices. I've done that on a couple of TR purchaces. You just need to have a truck that will pull what you are buying. Just my 2c's worth.
You can also setup a tow dolly rental in the city you go to pick the vehicle up in and drop it off in your city.
That way you only have to drive with the dolly one way.
