we have to get a new antivirus for our computer. we have narrowed it down to either norton 360 or trendmicro. swaying towards trend micro. any input appreciated

Kaspersky.
Norton 360 is just their version of Kaspersky.
Now let's see if they can get it right.
Trend Micro is *okay*.
When I had a virus problem a few years back, the only online scan that found anything was Kaspersky.
The scans I did were with :McAfee,Trend Micro,Kaspersky,F-Secure and one other I forget.
Zero problems since Kaspersky.
I'm never ever going back,not a chance in h*ll.
Get the commercial version and you can scan drives from other computers [mounted as externals].

windows xp is the operating system we have. my ol' lady works in the IT department at her company, she's been in the field for quite some time and can figure the heck out of server, office and home pc issues but security is something she is not familiar with. they use trend micro at her company, but home pc and server protection are two separate animals.
