whats needed to change a regal to a gn?

its that much of a dif. in the grill? if i could get a network of people to get me the 85. actually there are two 85's in that area. i would be set. lol

It's actually more like an anodized process I believe. Just using satin black on the headlight bezels, grille, and tailights after a good sanding on the chrome works pretty well. I actually bought a set of headlight bezels from another member and used them for 3 years and then found out they were chrome becuase a bug splattered on one and ate the paint off. Otherwise I would have never known so 3 years wasnt too bad. I acutally just sanded them again and resprayed them Satin Black! Good to go. The trim is a different story thought. I repainted the trim on my GN when it got painted. First I used Satin but it just didnt look right so I ended up using Semi Gloss Black, then sparyed them with clear. Looks freakin awesome!:biggrin:

wich trim did you have to paint gloss black? what grit did you use?im sure some 2000 grit would be fine.

Actually the chrome pieces should be sanded with a heavier grit so the paint holds. The trim around the windows, wheel well moldings, door handle, hood trim, trunk trim, everything except the bezels, grille, tail lights were painted semi gloss! I would have to go look at what exact grit sand paper i used but it was pretty heavy. I used many coats of paint on those chrome bezels. I'm thinking somewhere around 8. You would think it would be too thick but it looks great as long as the coats are thin! I ended up selling those bezels but i bet they still look great!

are the chrome on the regals the same as on a gn? i didnt think the gn had all chrome that the regals had....

the only difference would be lower door chrome panels or the lower lights in the front fenders. BUT, not all Regals had these either, just depends on the options. Otherwise, the trim pieces are pretty much the same!!

ok. so what if i get one with a vinal top and take it off? do i have to get different chrome pieces then?? thanks alot for everything man..

Well, I can honestly say I cant answer that one. You will need to find the quarter glass anyways becuase it will need to be the black trim. These really arent hard to find though. The only thing I would question would be the trim for the rear window, not sure if it would be usable or not from a leather top car. If not, these car be found in a boneyard anywhere! If you do get serious and find a car, I will make a few phone calls if ther are parts you cant find! -----Jeremy

ok. thanks man! when i get it done. ill have to cruise on down and go cruisin. lol show some people that g bodys arent just for circle jerkers!! lol

oh ya. you also have my favorite casino. lol i love rythme city. ive never lost there out of the 4 times ive been there. lol

Save yourself some trouble and try getting a plain regal. That way you don't have to mess with pulling the chrome off the doors, grinding the studs, pulling the vynil top off, and whatever BS is left. Pretty sure you will have to get blackout quarter glass regardless because it is different. FOr sure on a vynil top car, pretty sure on a non top car. Something looked different on the trim between my 2 regals. I think the chrome car might have had a more roundness to the trim while the blackout was flat???? Dunno. Maybe Eric will straighten this one out for me:redface:

**Update: This thread got me a little pumped so I went and finished tearing the driver's fender/wheelwell off. Took some easy stuff off too like the wiring block and wiper motor. Now I have that feeling of accomplishment when I walk out to the garage. Better get moving, wifes talking about giving me 1000 bucks to get going on it. Some nicer weather might be motivating:mad:

so i half to change the windows them selves or just the trim? body work doesnt bother me. i just paid 14,000.00 at college to learn how to do it! lol

Probably way easier just to buy the glass with the trim on it and be done with it. I have had the trim come off when we pulled windows on a monte one time. I assume its held on with window sealer also?? Now thinking about it I got some chrome windows in the garage I should compare the 2 sometime. I just saved them for the glass and one still has the original "buick" sticker on it. Thought that was neat. Another option you could go with is just go TB clone instead of GN. Just do the hood, shave the emblem beings it won't be a turbo anyway, and throw a front air dam on it and a spoiler on the back and maybe some widened T wheels. White would look cool with that I always thought. BUT...white with blackout trim would be fricken sweet:cool: Oh, I also have a flowmaster catback setup off my car I'd be willing to part with if interested. Has a little tweak on the muffler where the sidepipe bolts up to from when it sideswiped. Not all that bad though. I think its stainless steel cause I haven't noticed any rust on it at all and the kit costs 475 new:eek: Dual in, dual out 2.5 inch I believe. I'll get you a link.

ya. its not going to be a show car. just a driver. lol im not concerned with being perfect. im not trying to completely pull it off. ya know? someone very knowlegable would prob notice right away it wasnt real. thats fine. lol just want the look. ;-}

I was going to recommend fiberglass bumpers and hood.......
but I can't really recommend fiberglass bumpers on a driver:redface:
